As you can easily see, there is lots of competition when it comes to SEO.
So unless you have a specific audience, I personally wouldn't try it.
This is true for almost any niche. I was rather interested in earnings potential, how good is traffic converting, etc.Quote:

So I would only start this if I had a target market which is really into VPNs. For example, BlackHatWorld forum visitors would be a perfect audience, but most other websites won't be. NordVpn is offering great commissions up to 40%, but most other brands aren't that generous.
Had this set up for a short while many years ago. Very niche audience.
The commissions were **** compared to gambling affiliation so we decided it was not worth the effort to pursue.
In my own experience, there is a BIG difference in the reliability of VPNs depending on if it's a free app or a paid service. Paid always works properly, free does 'most' of the time but rarely gets it right for certain countries. So yeah, there's a market for paid VPN (and free) comparisons and I'd be a potential user/customer, especially if I believed the review to be genuine and informed and not just hype to convert the highest paying CPA to the affy.
But from what others have posted, it's a crowded market. Well, sod it. So is online casinos. Make your site better than the rest.
I tried it, got nothing.
Bigger picture: how much is gambling market vs VPN market worldwide? 10000:1 or 100000:1? So the very best VPN affiliate hopefully gets as much as very, very small gambling affiliate. The competition to be on the top will be much smaller, but thanks, no. There must be better affiliate niches (like travel and it is still not good enough).
Some of the commission generated can be seen as crazy, certain brands will pay CPA only, but with this you can find say £600 CPA and more.
Brands out of UK can pay a rev share.
If you get on a good deal you can make some serious money I believe.
a vpn costs like 5bucks a month if you shop around. I doubt there is any profit to be made here srlsy.
edit: my missus uses this one purevpn.com - pretty sure it costs like $5 a month.
Please ignore this I completely misread the initial thread. I agree with Sherlock, the amount of revenue generated using this things is poor.Quote:

As I know the VPN market is very big and the competition is crazy, there are so many different services, to make money from it you need to gather an audience, to switch to you. You need a person who can even sell air.
I know a person who is doing vpn affiliate, he has been in this field for about 5 years, but it seems that the income is not very high. He mainly focuses on SEO. You can find his contact at vpnchecked.com
I have same experince it is not worth itQuote:

Dosent seem like the payout would be that massive with VPNs
VPN affiliate marketing is a complex and highly competitive niche. SEO promotion is difficult because the market is oversaturated and large websites dominate the search results. Profits depend on the target audience: without it, earnings are minimal. Some brands, such as NordVPN, offer good commissions (up to 40%), but conversion rates are low due to free VPNs and trial versions. Monetization is difficult - payments are often made only after the subscription ends. If you don't have a niche audience or strong marketing skills, you should consider other affiliate areas, such as gambling or travel, where the potential income is higher.
Interesting discussion — and I agree with most of what’s been said here.
The VPN affiliate space definitely looks appealing at first glance, especially with strong brands like NordVPN or Surfshark offering up to 40% commissions. But in practice, it’s extremely competitive and SEO-heavy. The big comparison sites dominate Google for all the key keywords, and it’s tough for smaller affiliates to break through without a unique angle or paid traffic strategy.
Conversion rates can also be tricky. Many users just want free VPNs or short-term trials, so unless you have a highly targeted audience (tech/privacy blogs, torrent guides, cybersecurity niches, etc.), you’ll likely see limited returns.
That said, if you already have relevant traffic, VPN offers can be a good way to diversify income — especially with long-term subscriptions or cross-promotions tied to cybersecurity tools.
In short: good potential, but not an easy niche to start fresh in.
I totally agree — the competition in this niche is absolutely massive, and breaking through without a strong angle is extremely hard nowadays. On top of that, there are countless VPN providers with very different policies, pricing models, and levels of credibility, so navigating the landscape isn’t simple at all.
Agree the entry barrier looks brutal if you read it as a classic comparison-SEO play, which is what most of this thread is describing. But the vertical's actually shifted under that read in the last 12-18 months, and it's worth flagging because the angles that work now aren't the ones that worked when those big comparison sites were built.
AI search hit VPN harder than almost any other affiliate niche. "Best VPN for X" is the perfect zero-click query and ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google's AI overviews answer it inline. The comparison sites everyone here is pointing at are bleeding traffic on exactly that pattern. So competing on those keywords is climbing a hill that's actively eroding.
Where there's still room is on the angles AI can't summarise well — specific use-case content (jurisdiction-specific bypass, streaming geo-unblock for niche services, compliance/legal nuance around VPN use in regulated markets), and stacking VPN with adjacent privacy tools rather than treating it as a standalone offer. LTV on a privacy-stack subscriber is materially higher than on a VPN-only one.
Not saying it's easy — it's not — but "saturated comparison niche" is yesterday's framing of this market. The interesting question now is which post-AI angles actually convert.
