Sorry to hear that. It's very risky business to send some faceless guy that you don't know money and expect him to do the right thing. There are a lot of scammers out there. If you paid via paypal maybe you can dispute the transaction.
I'm really sorry to hear that. The fact that he had 2 different names is the first thing that makes me wonder who this person is.
In past I faced problem when buyer did not pay but here its reverse case, surprising that he did not pay to the owner.
Sorry to hear this, happens too often. Very important to google, investigate and the cross reference these requests. May not be the case but too many link sellers with gmail addresses hard to imagine any of them are legit. To many scammers around in every industry and walks of life these days.
Even on the phone, if I don't recognize the number I don't answer ... they can leave a message!
This is a pretty usual scam. There scammers promise the site owners to pay them more than a link probably is worth and then they sell it for less than it is worth and keep everything.
Remember: if it sounds too good to be true -> it is probably a scam in this industry.
If you still want to purchase links, then you should try to verify that the seller is the owner of the website. Also use more secure payment methods. And if you want to sell links to link brokers then you should ask for a payment before you publish the link. That way you reduce the risk of being involved in a scam (even though that wasn´t your intention).
Unfortunately, these things happen. I remember once a webmaster contacting a buyer because the scammer who intermediated the purchase never paid him, so he tried to get the money from the buyer (who already paid). Not much can be done once the scam is done. The webmaster can obviously remove the link, but that doesn't really fix the problem of the missed income (plus the work involved in getting the link published in first place). But that way, the buyer loses the link he actually paid...
It's a lose-lose situation...![]()
