I never use popups... but it could also be that.. are your impressions still the same in WMT? and is it a lot of return traffic missing? "maybe visitors know you have annoying popups and dont click through, it's main reason i never click through answers .com" or It could be a combo of different things which give you a low quality score, I have had various losses "All seem to be algo" and have always dug deep in and have always tried to better everything that deep down I know shouldn't be there or could be improved, perhaps adding /tips to disallow for a few days might give you an idea... or do you have a lot of anchor keywords? i ditched nearly all of my anchors for brand and brand + anchor.. one thing is for sure is that you lost traffic after the quality algo refresh, so it's most likely your culprit.. Think like a visitor and not like an SEO'er

You are still number one for the main keyword.. you might have lost rankings for variation keywords for that page, or may have lost rankings in other data centers globally

It is very likely that this is a problem with inbound links. Your profile links is not natural, as he mentioned your forum has received a large number of links with Russia. The second possible problem is the google algorithm update, but I do not think that it reflected so large downturns. Check the search panel console even if you have not imposed any filter.

What do your server stats show... are you looking at G analytics? have you moved scripts into the footer recently? added any other java or plugins that could stop you js analytics script loading? it may be something very simple

If it was a configuration problem I wouldn't see any traffic at all? But anyway, fair point, will check that to be sure

Yeah, and that's first step; just disavowed 42 domains. Sit tight

If you are checking Google analytics, it possible.. probably not likely as a ran a page test and it loads up quick but always best to see if your server records show a drop in organic traffic as the first course of action imo,

I would recommend to check other things, not related to SEO. We tend to look at positions and serps but miss that the server had some issues or maybe the site doesn't load up in Chrome or whatever.

Another thing - Football (soccer), Champions league, Basketball, etc - all ended pretty much from the middle of may till the beginning of June. If you are focused on those - that might be an answer.

I don't use pop ups either, a pet hate of mine. It's a shame because I know people who do very well with them.

Seems that you were somewhat right after all.. it turned out that we had an alert in GA saying that we have 343 pages with no valid tracking code. Not tested/fixed yet but can't imagine that wasn't was caused it in the first place.

So, no penalty or quality update here. Just foolishness

Yes, I should of thrown that out sooner before you start deleting pages and making changes lol.. sometimes the most obvious... here is another thought of a similar experience.. is your verification file still good in wmt? I had mine verified by analyltics then changed the software, dropped my verification which for some reason lowered traffic.. it might just be coincidence or have something to do with the trust factor? but check to see its still active

    Yes.

The issue with these kind of pages is not that Google considers them spam or low quality.

These pages might most definitely be highly valuable to visitors that come to your site through other means or already existing regular visitors.

It's just that Google does not see any particular reason why these kind of pages should rank in Google search.

The fact that Google considers that these pages should not rank in search does not necessarily mean that the respective pages are of low quality. It can still consider them as great supplementary content for visitors that come from other search terms to other pages or to your existing visitors, but just not something that would be relevant for someone performing a Google search.

It's like when a website has a forum. Sure, the forum is great content that engages users and does offer them a lot of value... it just might not be relevant for anyone during a Google search, therefore it is demoted.

Or /tag/ pages. They do have their use on a website and you should most definitely have them if you have a lot of posts. It's just not something you would want to see in Google search though.

Agree on that. I would assume that the same would apply to product pages in a web shop to some extend.
