WebP Image Format Tools - Need Help

We want to experiment with WebP images. However, we can not find any software that will show image quality in real time before creating the image.

As a result, we have to convert an image to webp, see if it looks like **** or is too big of a file, then increase or reduce the conversion quality multiple times in order to find our sweet spot. This is a PITA and slows production time down.

We need to find a WebP converter that allows for real time views of what the image will look like. Anyone have any suggestions?

*EDIT*
Example of what we want in a WebP converter:

I know this is probably what you are not looking for, but Litespeed Cache has an image optimization option that converts images to WebP. While you can't preview them, you can set the quality from 0% to 100%. Mine is at 82 which is the default setting and I'm yet to see a messed up image out of my 1334.

I don't know if this is a good solution for ya, but just throwing it out there in case it works.

I appreciate the suggestion, but we are using webpconv to convert our images now. It is fast and has many different options, but no real time vision of what the file will look like afterwards. We are scaling images down to 25% quality in some cases, we can not blanket set an image quality and go with it, will not work for our purposes. Here is an example of RIOT software, which is what we use for PNGs and JPEGs much of the time... it shows real time different quality levels for images like this:

Sorry ProFRB, it would let me edit, save or republish the image, must have been the same name as the one in first post, if you still need it put up, try again or you can email it to me and I can post it for you.

I like using photoshop for most things images and although they do not save images natively that way, there are plugins that will help. Most PS plugins are pretty straight forward, just load them in the correct folder, close and reopen photoshop and they are available.

As a test I tried the one from the telegraphics site and was not able to preview first, but the one from github did

When doing a preview, of it is a large image be aware the preview is just a small portion selected, not sure if that can be manipulated or not.

That plugin should allow for the file format to be available in all open and save dialogs once installed

Also, I haven't done it in years, but recall I wrote a script one time that went into a folder and opened, resized and then saved all files in a folder under a different format. (if I recall I changed and resized psd's to jpg. Anyone that wanted to do a bunch of images might find that usefull, not sure other programs would do that well or not.

We have no interest whatsoever in doing batch processing. We do each image by hand.

All I need is a program to manipulate webp in real time and see what different levels of compression will look like before saving the file!

It baffles me how this is so difficult a problem to solve!

I looked around since yesterday, and this question was asked on several occasions on reddit a year ago without a resolution. I myself downloaded a few software programs which gave me e preview of the original (like that made any sense at all), but not at the outcome.

The only thing I can think of is finding a .NET coder and using one of those jpg/png to webp free open code libraries and getting something setup for yourself.

You can try https://ezgif.com/jpg-to-webp and see if is any good for you. Its an online converter with different options, and it shows you a preview of what your image will look like after conversion.

Unless I'm missing or misunderstanding something, this works for me.

This is a good approximation of what we are looking for!

Unfortunately it is web-based and not downloadable. BUT, it will get the job done until we source a proper solution (which I think I just figured out how to make happen... by throwing some money at the problem).
