I designed and built slot machines and art installations in casinos in A.C. for a company that used to be a division of IGT. My designs and floorplans have won numerous awards, including two World Gaming Expo's best booth in Las Vegas. One was 100 ft. X 100 ft. with $70,000 worth of rented Palm tress, 50 models, a 30 ft. tall water feature with fog effects (that was fun to build), games, etc...

Then my wife and I moved to the Southwest US and she managed restaurants and i did the same, and designed menus. After 6 years of managing, on a vacation in the Caribbean, I told her I would no longer work for anyone else and that I would teach myself marketing. Having a BA in theater and a BS in chemistry with a lot of post graduate work, it was a no brainier LOL.

After five stressful months of no sleep and hard research and study I learned how to make websites and market them. I meet some cool people here and on a couple of other forums and decided that this would be the best fit for me.

Interesting to read everyone's stories! I had a few jobs in-between but my longest I was a manager at a movie theater for about 8 years. Between then and doing what I do now, I also worked at a call center (not for me) kinda did an uber thing before uber was a thing.. Would drive people around off craigslist.. $20 anywhere in town.. A lot of return clients with DUIs or cars in the shop that just trying to get to and from work.. That's $40 a day off one person and I built up about 5 regulars and then had random calls.. Most people tipped pretty well also. Then I did tile for a while and other side jobs.. Then kinda just fell into this. I had a few websites that I had ranked previous to casinos, mostly hobby sites, a chatroom and a rap battle site (I was pretty young when I started lol) Took the same techniques and applied them to my casino sites, almost 7 years later I'm still here.

    Lots of interesting stories here

Before getting into the gambling industry I worked in McDonalds for 5 years as a manager (while studying IT at college), for my last year before arriving in Malta I got my "McPassport" and moved to Spain to work in McDonalds.

I was a street "operator" on the streets of San Francisco. j/k. Worked in Sales at Yahoo! and a few high tech companies, while doing affiliate marketing on the side before becoming fulltime.

I worked at Maccas for 4.5 years while I was in high school/start of uni too!

I hate to say it, but I actually had a lot of fun there and sometimes I dream that I go back on weekends. I can't imagine being a 32 year old behind the grill but I wouldn't mind eating chicken nuggets all day for free.

Tbh I really enjoyed it too, and had some great times there. I often wonder if I could just go back for a couple of shifts. McDonalds has such a stigma attached to it, but I think it teaches you great work ethic.

Haha I know right. Although I wasn't supposed to be eating them while I was working so I guess you could say I was stealing them.
Back when I was there was when they used to have a production bin and after ten mins the burgers got thrown away. At the end of the night whatever burgers were left we could take them home, so my family got a lot of free Maccas.
Crew also used to get half price meals, so on my breaks I would make my own super duper burger the way I wanted it.

Ok now I am salivating. It's been awhile since I had Maccas and it is like heroin to me.

I used to work in a sports shop. Completely different to what I do now. I do quite miss physical customers though as opposed to hits on some stats.

I had a small land-based casino connected to a non-stop coctail bar, where I allso worked as a bartender But after 13 years I realised, that it´s time to leave those neverending nightshifts to someone younger

Oh yes, the dark side But there are plenty of aff managers changing their field all the time. Also when they change their employer and they try to bring affs to the new one. Succesful aff manager is a golden goose for casinos to employ.

Taught English Literature ("Introduction to Fiction and Poetry 101") at Johns Hopkins University. Then went to work as a content editor for an Internet start up in NYC in 1999. Left to build a virtual horse racing website. The CTO told me he was quitting to work from home on his own and become a "gambling affiliate." This was in 2002, and when he first told me I still remember feeling so sad for him because he had clearly lost his mind. A year later, I was begging him to help me set up similar websites. I sold sports handicapping picks and was an online casino affiliate for 10 years, and after a two year break I have now "crossed over" to become an operator and get involved once more in this slightly crazy but always stimulating world.

Online marketing manager (with a focus on SEO), from a pretty good online marketing company. We worked with Fortune 500 clients (however, a US SEO online marketing agency offically contracted them and then outsourced all the real work to us in Eastern Europe for 40% of the original price and taking all the credit....).
I had enoughof 50 hours per week and a pretty bad wage. I had the know-how, I was fed up, one day I just stood up, never looked back.

This is a really interesting thread. Nice work Wagerprod

I was in the music biz, finding and publishing unknown artists off the Internet and getting their stuff into ads and TV. Also ran a record label - nothing big time, trance and hard dance mainly.

My background was programming and I have been working on the web one way or another since 1995. In 2004 I started gambling online and one day, after a particularly bad session at Ladbrokes (I hit a Royal Flush at VP and then proceeded to lose the lot on Thunderstruck!) I clicked a link in the bottom right corner of the site called "Affiliates" without a first clue what it really meant. It still amazes me to this day - one inadvertent click of a PC mouse and my whole future was changed in that one moment.
