A good PC with a good graphics card is the way to go but what I like about the PS3 is that it is very portable and works as a fantastic Blue Ray Player. The PS3 is the way to go for pure enjoyment of gaming.

Personally I rarely game but when I get a few mates around with beers we enjoy a good play on the PS3.

For your kind of gameplay i think its the best solution; not as cheap as a ps3 or xbox but u can atach a wheel for racing games(i've tried one on the xbox, but it totally sucks) + a gamepad for sporting games.
We have the wheel for PS3 Gran Turismo and it works very well. We have it attacked to a table with a bottom for the pedals and I love it.

IMO the PC is good for games with a joystick like Flight Similar.

The Wii is the best for some family fun but for a serious gamer it's Xbox360 all the way for me!

Yeah I agree, Wii is for sure a family related console! There is no way out of it, they might have a couple of games for older people but most of all, they represent the Mario and Donkey Kong etc franchises which automatically put them in a smaller age group

let's be serious...if you go on a trip to Las Vegas let's say, you'll take your ps3 with you?
the need for portablity is not that great if you are a gamer. And a pc(let's say you have a case like mine, Cooler Master HAF 932, which is just huge) is not that hard to move, just bigger.
Most PC's also have HDMI and the best thing about them is that you can attach professional gaming gear(gamepads, steering wheels, keyboard, mouse).
You can use the kinnetic or how its called, fox xbox, but for example how will you play sports(soccer, football, etc..)? will you start running crazy in the room?
For gaming a pc is the best.
