That is correct. I'm attempting to ascertain which pages have the most juice. I know a method or two, but they are clunky and time consuming. I'm hoping someone has a better answer, perhaps a tool, that easy checks large numbers of pages for PA so that I can redirect some internal links. And learning how to view another website's authoritative pages would be even better, as that could be utilized for all sorts of research

    Thanks for explaining.

Perhaps have a look at ahrefs.com if you had not already. They seem to give quite a lot of good info..

I don't use them now that they are pay only site. I don't recall them having any sort of page authority stat in the free version of the site that once existed. Though perhaps it does...?

Can you be more specific? A "pro account" where and what exactly does "snurfing" mean because I doubt it's the definition I see on Urban Dictionary...

When I catch someone running ahref's on my site, I usually block the IP at the server level.

Any person that runs ahref's on competitor's sites are A: not planning on sending the competitor traffic, B: not a valid search engine therefore not planning on sending the competito traffic, C: just eating up the competitor's bandwith for "their own" personal gain and no gain or advantage to the competitor.

I block all of those quasi scrapers (which is exactly what they are). If it's not a valid SE (Bing, MSN, Google) the rest get blocked. A lot try to fool you with spoofed UA's. They too get blocked...lol

My thought process is, why should I let these scraper (ahrefs, majestic etc) have access, so they can use that info to sell to competitors, who will use that data against me. When you break it down to that, it really is pretty dumb letting these scapers have access to your content.

People don't "run ahrefs on your site". Ahrefs runs its own bots, scraping data like Google or any other bot does, then charges you and anyone else willing to pay for the privilege of looking at it. Luckily their bots do respect robots.txt so block them and other similar scrapers with robots.txt:

    Code:
    # Bad bots and crawlers
    User-agent: AhrefsBot
    User-agent: dotbot
    User-agent: MJ12bot
    User-agent: rogerbot
    User-agent: Scrapy
    User-agent: Screaming Frog SEO Spider
    User-agent: SearchmetricsBot
    User-agent: SemrushBot
    User-agent: sistrix
    User-agent: SEOENGWorldBot
    User-agent: spbot
    User-agent: WorldBrewBot
    Disallow: /
That won't stop the numerous bad bots that don't respect robots.txt but its a start.

I understand what you are saying. Perhaps a better question is, when searching a website (yours, someone elses, whatever) what is a good method of determining which pages on that site have the most authority and would be best for interlinking/getting links from?

I disagree with this. DA and PA are simply a measure of quality backlinks going towards it. If a website has excellent backlinks going to it it's going to have a higher DA and PA.

If this meant nothing then backlinks mean nothing IMO.
