What's more profitable 1st Tier or 2nd

I just started with casinoblasters.. and I've been hunting other affiliate programs.. (thus my recent thread).. Most of the time I see a 2nd or 3rd tier option. The secind tier usually falls around 5%.

Has anybody here made any serious money with the 2nd tier, or does everyone usually go for the 1st tier profits?

I go for first tier - I want to bring in players, not other affiliates. However, I know some webmasters have sites designed for affiliates or people looking for an affiliate program.

Honestly, I dont think I know of anyone who does second tier exclusively... but I could be wrong. You also have to be careful - some programs T&C say you must bring in a player (presumably first tier) within a certain timeframe to continue receiving commissions. In all cases where you are looking to do second tier only, I would clear it with the affiliate program.

I got one site focussing only on affiliates, can't say that I make serious money with the affiliates signed up under me, but it's a little bit, some bucks here and some bucks there.... Let's say I couldn't make a living out of my reffered affiliates alone....

matted is right, always check the T&C on a regular basis, some programs also just change them without letting anyone know about it, got something in it that you have to check them regulary for changes...

Normally one would expect that you should make more from a first tier partnership compared to a second tier partnership.

I don't think that is the way you should look at it though... I think 2nd, 3rd, 10th, gazillionth tier programs are nice as an additional revenue that can help towards the hosting bill or the advertising bill and therefore get you some extra 1st tier players.

Something else I like about sub-tiers is that it helps me to see if I am the only one having problems converting visitors to real players or if it is a general trend with the network / casino.

For example: If I somehow have say 20 sub affiliates under me and on average they have 1 new depositing real player in every 200 visitors, another network / casino 1 in 50 visitors I would probably try to push the latter harder than the 1st... especially if I can see very detailed stats regarding 'my' sub-affiliates like in the Playtech software.

Also, if all my subs can convert on average 1 in 50 visitors to a real player and I have on average 1 in 200 then maybe there is something wrong with how I promote the casino / network...

Having said that much, if you would have been in this game from the beginning onwards and you would have created a site specifically targetted at recruiting other webmasters I think you could make some nice extra pocket money out of it all.

So, to make a long story short, more profitable I would normally say 1st tier... certainly if you heavily promote the casino / network. But the info I can get from it... priceless.
