They played well until the last game, not sure what happened, maybe they were too afraid to lose they forgot to play some soccer

While van Gaal is a great coach, he is the one to blame here because he put his EGO in front of the teams success...

Well the visual of Brazil getting blown away...changed the game plan of both the teams yesterday..both were afraid of loosing and forgot they have to actually score to win!

I did not get you..what decision of his are you referring to? I know his decision to take off RVP knowing game is heading towards penalties..who is one of their best was a mistake..but no ego there..

I didn't think taking RVP off was a mistake at all. I thought it was a mistake leaving him in as long as LvG did was more of a mistake.

De Jong had about 60 minutes worth of fitness - so you start the game knowing he is coming out after about 70-75 minutes.

Ven Persie spent the majority of the match in the offsides position and he was getting slower and slower to get back. Subbing him off was an obvious if you envision yourself going for the win anytime before penalties.

Argentina were playing as they did because DiMaria was badly missed. I felt like Holland expected far more from Van Persie (which they did not get) and they were trying to somewhat "conserve" Robben in how they used him tactically - hence the grossly negative tactics Holland employed. The way they were playing was the equivalent to parking a fleet of busses.

Saying that, I highly doubt anyone had Brazil on their minds - as both teams were looking towards Germany and not looking down towards Brazil and their joke of a performance.

This is nonsense. Had he used his ego, he'd have taken full credit for the Krul sub - which he did not.

I'm not sure anyone is to blame for the Netherlands failure. In the end it is a case of a smallish nation (just 16m people) not quite having enough attacking quality to foot it with the best in the world.

They failed to score in 120 minutes against Costa Rica, and in another 120 minutes against Argentina. That sort of form does not deserve to win a World Cup - no matter how sentimental you'd like to be.

As the prize got closer, the Dutch got more defensive, and Van Persie was deployed as a lone striker for much of the semi-final with the Netherlands in a 4-5-1 that almost turned into 6-3-1 at times. He was frustrating to watch - constantly offside - but I think he was trying to lose his two markers and find some space.

The entire creative plan going forwards seemed to be "Give it to Arjen Robben and see what he can do ...." which just isn't good enough.

Heres the point gooner... Oranje is NOT a team to play full defense, its just not their nature and spirit and they did quite well in the first matches. Then van Gaal obviously ordered them to stop playing with any risk at all, only passes to the back. I mean one could see in the players faces they didnt really know what to do, wanting to play forward but not doing it for tactical reasons and for THIS theres obviously the coach to blame.

Honestly, I couldnt care less if you consider it nonsense or not. Do you actually know van Gaal at all? We have seen him for years here in Germany and he is a VERY and I mean VERY egoistic person and coach. Just need to compare the match plans from first game to last and you will see the big tactical differences which were NOT justified.

Who cares actually, just dont like seeing teams not delivering because of tactical bs. While the dutch team looked very homogen in the first matches, it didnt do anymore in those last matches.

I guess Germany will take the World cup this time. They seems to be on rage, and Messi would not stop the machine on the run.

Good points. If Netherlands couldn't score in two matches of 120 minutes each then they would be lucky to make it to the finals.

They did at least beat Brazil.

Well I managed to get my money back in one of the sweeps comps for coming last with Cameroon.

I didn't get to watch the game this morning because I was in the gym when it was on. Good on Germany though.

Surprisingly none of the Argentinian's are at work today...

Good to hear you got your money back, always good to have insurance !

Poor Argentinian's, they almost had this one, but losing 2 minutes before the penalty kicks, what can I say the final is cruel...

Argentina had a chance or 2 but so did Germany hitting the post.

Good competitive game and the best team won.

Leopold must be one of the most ennoying members here... This REALLY is not meant offensively, I sure dont want to attack you personally mate.

I just dont like such a behaviour AFTER a tournament but okay.

All in all, Germany must have had the best team in this tournament, still, they got quite lucky in the final and except they hit the post, Argentina had way better opportunities to score a goal.

    Congrats to Ger!

I have read all posts here in this thread, was sitting relaxed all the time during the tournament before TV and the monitor, and now I needed only to quote some posts to show the difference between negative and positive posting and how real life handle these things.

Indeed, your post made my day!
And now I will continue to enjoy my wonderful vacation.
