Why Affiliate Managers Allow Them To Continue

This is a copy of an email I get on a regular basis. With repeated reports to the AM's it seems as though spammers are welcomed. You would think that he could at least come across a little more professional

I get spammed so much. I must receive 200 spam per day. I have to look at all my mail.

From my understanding your question is “Why Affiliate Managers Allow Them To Continue”? Simply put because most simply just don’t give a dam. For the most part money tends too over ride any moral conscience, a continual circle of events that just keep coming. Their cups can never be full enough.

Then again whose fault is it anyway? The lack of response regarding this thread should speak volumes. Few have the time, knowledge, and willingness to make real change.

Relying on an affiliate program too take care of these bandits is simply silly. Occasionally a program may close the spammers account but over time this does relatively nothing. The spammer is back is the next day. Best way, find the spammer yourself and take appropriate action.

So if you are passionate enough take the time to make change then do it, talk is cheap. Please remember in most jurisdictions spam email is a crime. For the AFF programs that support they are technically criminal as well.

At Rewards Affiliates we take care of spam pronto. It's not tolerated. I know how annoying it is and don't think anyone should have to put up with it...

If you receive spam from one of our affiliates, please email it straight to me and I will take care of it.

Just a point about pgaming's comment on the money in the pocket thing...

A lot of aff managers don't make more money or a commission based on what you guys do (your performance), so in that respect it really doesn't put money in our pockets to let these guys keep spamming. obviously I can't speak for those programs who do make a commission based on aff performance, but I'm sure after time those programs will notice a drop from those affiliates who actually work hard.

Just my 2 cents.

Some aff programs deal with things better than others... I wouldn't make the blanket statement that aff managers do not care. I sent in a spam report to an aff manager earlier this week and I am fairly confident it got handled.

As stated “Simply put because most simply just don’t give a dam.” I believe the keyword is most but not all. Some programs I acknowledge do indeed care as pointed out by Renee. CR has demonstrated time after time their strong commitment against this sort of behaviour.

I was generalizing the issue. So the program closes down the spammers account a step in the right direction perhaps. Then what? The spammer moves on to a different program or just simply sets up another account and starts the cycle all over again. Pardon me for the sarcasm but WOW that surely is rocket science!

Sorry, but for myself this just doesn’t cut it. These people need some serious incarceration not just a slap on the wrist. Imagine for a moment one of these little buggers front door being busted down, computers confiscated, jailed, and fined. Better yet the next affiliate event a spammer gets busted right at the airport. Sounds a little outlandish? Maybe, but it has been known to happen.

spam email is much more than a simple nuisance it is a crime. Programs that do turn the blind eye I would hold accountable as a perpetuating such crimes.

1. Also worth mentioning where do the funds go after the spammers account has been closed? The casino, program, spammer, or is it donated to some charity? Another good reason to take email spam beyond the Aff program. Oops sorry I brought up a topic few would like to discuss. The truth beyond the vial ignorance is often hard to swallow.

So kaus how do you feel about certain groups selling your personal information. Maybe your email, address, telephone number, gender, first and last name? I bet you would be pretty astounded wouldn’t you? Well unfortunately this does continue to happen on a regular basis. Once a person has this information what’s next? Identity theft? Some people's dreams cost others so much.

I am very against that and have seen people try to make an attempt at selling thier database of users. I dont care how iggnorant I sound on that issue because I will publicly tell them what I think of them and where they can take that list. I have never nor will I in the furture give out an email addy that i have collected. It's wrong and is illegal.

I hate spam more than I hate mushrooms and that is a WHOLE lot! I am usually pretty sweet and smiley but if you ever want to see me rage then send spam. As an AM I have no tolerance for it whatsoever. This past week an affiliate account was closed because of spam. He actually continued to spam after his account was closed which made no sense to me and really just enraged me more.
Maybe that was the point... Watch Erin Freak!!! :pissed:

I'm the same as you Erin (except I actually love mushrooms...)
Ill keep searching for the source until I fall asleep.

I just can't stand the spam. In fact, I have been getting spam from another casino group over the last couple of months (I wont mention names) who keep telling me they have dealt with the affiliate however I keep getting spammed from the same guy.

You'd have to be damned stupid to send spam mail to an affiliate manager in my opinion. You're just asking for trouble.

I can say with full confidence that complaints I've sent to Renee, Wayne from FL and a few others programs have been knocked on the head pretty fast.

Of course there will always be AM's that don't give a toss, though in some cases I suspect their instruction on dealing with aff spam comes from higher up the food chain. It's a bit hard to take a stand on spam if the upper echelon are saying let it pass we need to business.

What really gets up my nose are casino's or should I say their marketing arm who are now registering multiple domains solely for SPAM.

I like mushrooms, especially in a creamy sauce or even raw, but spam and other types of processed meat really gets my goat!

If an instance of spam is reproted to me as an affiliate manager there is no way that i would sit back and let it happen as for starters I hate spammers and secondly its totally against our T&C's.

What you also have to think is the AM's may not be aware of the spammers activity, them knowing its against the programs T&C's means they will do what they can to shield their affiliate links and activity from their account manager.

It is true that some AM's get a cut of profits maybe around the 1% mark but not many do, and i think the ones that do I am sure they would not encourrage it.

AM's should try and be as aware as possible to the goings on of spammers but we also need the help from others to report this to enable swifter action in preventing further spam.

IMHO Martyn has voiced what the general populous of AM's operate under these days.

Unfortunately like any other online business, there will always be those that for what ever reason stray beyond what is a global accepted protocol.

In saying that due diligence in reporting spam to AM's in paramount.

It would not take that long to figure out who is taking action and who is not.

Personally for those who do not act of these submissions I kick them to the curb; surprisingly how fast programs change their attitude to spam if & when their put on the coat (ostracised) by the webmaster fraternity.

" Boumond's arrest demonstrates that spamming has both civil and criminal consequences. Simply put, spammers who brazenly disregard the law will wind up in jail," Baker said in a statement.

After a year-long investigation, EarthLink filed suit against Boumond , alleging that his crew sent out millions of e-mails that included advertisements for computer virus scripts, get-rich-quick and "work at home" schemes, software for bulk mailing and lists of addresses to be used by other spammers.
He was accused of assuming the identities of his own family members and innocent third-parties to obscure his own identity.

EarthLink has a history of casino spam trackback, including an injunction in 1997 against Sanford Wallace, then known as "most prolific spammer."

try getting over a 1000 spams a day. and that's probably an understatement.

and I have used images rather than any other approach. I feel very much I've been targeted by some who have turned in my emails to spam poachers... as I keep changing in order to avoid such numbers because it makes it damn hard to find legit emails when you have to go thru so much BS.

what kills me most is it seems to me it should be so easy to force any email leaving any place ..... to provide its true origin right on the "from" title....

and even easier to find these spammers using tech that .... sadly I know little about .... but i believe if we can accomplish so much as has been done ... that there are ways to spot and prove where spam comes from .. and it be addressed.

maybe Greek will tell me different. I'm simple. admitted. but I can't get around thinking there's a way if it was really, really wanted to be fixed.

as for aff managers ..... programs ..... I agree ...... RA has been excellent about addressing these matters. as for some other programs. then you have your scumbag programs that make no effort. .... but are sure willing to give lip-service they are "trying".

now that said..... anybody supporting programs that are known to not address spammers..... are only hurting themselves and the rest legit operators.

and as long as you choose to not take down these kind of programs ... then what incentive do they have .... since they're obviously all about money .... to start addressing spamming issues?

Wow... I recently changed servers and in doing so, I am suddenly getting more spam. My old host swore they were not filtering spam - but I now get 2 or 3 casino offers (all seeming to come from the same guy) per day... And the links are run through a 3rd party link tracker! :pissed:

I'm going to start clicking through and checking my cookies and take the guy down!

If this makes sense Matted you are probably on a more popular route. Spammers attack routes that are going to net them a higher yield.
