So now I guess I will cheer for Croatia until they get knocked out too.

Sad, sad day. Cannot believe I stayed up for that game.
It was hard to watch as soon as I saw there was only 1 change to the lineup with Juric slotting in I didn't like our chances.

That's the problem with having old farts as coaches. They are way too conservative minded and never take risks.

Peru was always going to score at least 1 goal so to get a result we had to take it to them from the start of the game.

I got very much respect for Cahill and his career, he did wonderful things for Australia in the past, but he's not a top class player anymore. The guy is 38 and didn't even make too many starts at Millwall.

I do agree Arzani got some talent, but question is how young players will do if they play 3 matches 90 mins at this level.

In 2006 almost the whole Australian team played Premier League, with players at Seria A. Now just a few are playing Premier League. Qualification, with Postecoglou was far from impressive this time.

The Peruvian team got a mission to score at least 1 goal for their 60,000 fans who came all the way to Russia and scream "gooool" after 36 years. It's done and they are all going back home.
    We love you!

Cahill is at the tail end of his career but he deserved more minutes this World Cup. He has proven time and time again to step up in the big games. Juric looked like a headless chicken out there. We had no quality upfront it was a no brainer decision.

Arzani deserved more minutes against Denmark and should have started against Peru. These decisions have cost Australia big time, qualifications were terrible but they showed enough to have potentially gotten results against Denmark and Peru to progress to the last 16.

Do the fans scream "gooool" or is it more like "gooooooooooaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllll ll"?

Australia loves you too! I love South Americans they're passionate people. In fact I will probably be visiting Peru in the next few years. It's unfortunate that Peru didn't progress I hope to see Argentina or Mexico go really far this tournament.

Australia had a mediocre bunch of players this time, no real star quality unfortunately.
I don't think they could have done much better than they did in that group. Peru were really good actually throughout the group and have been unlucky that they didn't take their chances in the other games as they might have got through.

And they barely made it out of the groups and lost the next game. I don't understand what's so surprising about Australia's departure. They've got a point, back then the "golden generation" managed to get 4. You should give them a break they did alright.

Enjoyed it a bit too, although I find the Swedish a very annoying team. Divers and crybabies.

It could be political decision, something like "boycott" of World Cup in Russia or a good cause for Merkel to not visit Russia and meet Putin.

I guess Germany can be scrubbed from my name now...
I still think Spain could win. But I will be supporting Croatia now since that's where (part of) my roots come from.

All of my picks are in the 1/8. That means I'm ahead of you. Why not have some competitiveness between all of us who made that list of predictions.
