I've been in this business for more than ten years. Reading the posts in this thread makes me realize I'm not the only one who finds things aren't like they used to be in the early 2000s. My son is contemplating starting his own affiliate marketing site. I'll ask him to read the various opinions, it might help him decide.

I think always and everywhere there is an opportunity to become successful. As for the gambling affiliate business ..

On the one hand, it is now harder than ever before - because the best seats are already occupied, the competition is high and you have to compete with the most experienced people. On the other hand, the road is paved for you, and the way to succeed is well known - you do not need to invent anything new, just do what you did before you.

If you do things, new opportunities must be opened to you. If you do not do anything - all the doors will remain closed.

The answer from my side is ...yes. These days it has been seen that due to the growth of internet more number of people are taking interest in online games and betting. All wants to make money and this is a easy way to make money.

Most "New" affiliates in this particular nitch will find making real money rather difficult, IMO.

Unless the "new" affiliate is above average in their technical ability and resources, the "new" affiliates are going to to get run over(I was going to say 'bent over') by the more technically savvy and less scrupulous affiliates and affiliate programs.

Just my opinion.. after 12 years in the business.

I'm going to offer you what more experienced affiliates here may call "very naive" advice: if you have an interest in the subject of gambling and in affiliate work in general, you'll be able to muster the motivation to write decent content for the search engines and present it in a user-friendly way, even though there are tons of other competing aff sites out there. You need that fundamental interest in order to continually improve and innovate your site/aff work and gain a tiny edge, one key word at a time, one tactic at a time. There's no "easy" money here, but you could aim to earn a few hundred ($100-300) dollars a month...

On the other hand, if this is basically a dull subject (gambling) for you, it will be near-impossible to gather the creative energies needed a) to write decent content, and b) survive the daily grind of generating customers...

I believe that an "average affiliate's" dedication to the subject of the industry he's in is a critical component in enabling him to overcome low manpower and resources in order to generate an income...

Absolutely true.

Whether the motivation is personal interest in the subject, the desire to work for yourself, to be successful,etc... There's one constant here: you need to be intrinsically motivated to devote time and effort into this. Without motivation, you will another person who paid for a domain name, set up a site, and abandoned it in a matter of months/years.

If you want to be an affiliate, do it right.
If you don't want to put the time in, don't bother.

LOL- You could almost swap out "gambling" and insert "web hosting" in this thread and you would find almost the identical discussion a hundred times over pertaining to web hosting affiliate programs. I know I am new here but certainly not new to affiliate programs and affiliate/partner/merchant services.

Fact is that affiliate programs make people money. The question is the same from selling t-shirts online to web hosting or gambling, "how much and when".

The harsh realities behind affiliate programs are that some put little effort in and receive overnight and instant success, while others put years into becoming a successful affiliate and never are able to even recoup their annual costs associated to their quest of online middleman success.

The facts are those who find success in affiliate related programs are the ones going into their second or third year, while each consecutive year following getting better and better.

For what it is worth, I will provide some detail on myself to give an example of my approached to becoming an affiliate:

What I know and do is Cloud and Web development and provide Cloud and Web based hosting services through several online sources I have created and manicured over the years. I work and develop in open source software and portals and hosting control panels have become the top priorities and focus. I am involved in upwards of 50+ affiliate programs (non-gambling related) and partnered with around a dozen large companies I resell and reinvent services for. I run a moderately successful digital goods based affiliate program based on a niche I was to grab onto last year, which become moderately successful within only months, but only able to do this using my many previous years of experience. No way I could have cornered any market just coming onto the scene. You have no clue where the corner starts or ends.

For myself it has been a long road to this point and gambling and online casinos were never a part of how I started but have become a topic which I have taken interest based off of my findings along the way in other areas and requests of clients. Straight forward I am coming on the scene here at GPWA to become more familiar with just how things work with online casinos and gambling. Although I am new to the community, to get to this exact point and time, here and now, has taken me 6 months of research on the subject and I am ready to go forward based on what I know and have found.

GPWA is the first community related to gambling I have joined and one of the only communities so far I have felt comfortable in joining. I do not ask questions but rather research and answer questions if I can. I have many hours hours invested into becoming just an affiliate and besides a vision, could drop the whole deal based on a few fundamental reasons. First would be reasons of the legal nature and two, wagering myself and my development company (my latest venture and migration of VaporCreations) reputation being impacted by further involvement in online casino and gambling ventures. Basically if running an online affiliate casino related site would cause a conflict of interest with my current and past clients potentially tossing my bread and butter in the trash bin if you know what I mean. Funny, but this could become a factor and one I need to be sure of before going forward.

Just some random thoughts from a noobie who just came on the scene.

Thanks goes out to those here at GPWA that do share helpful insight. It certainly is a characteristic which invites others who enjoy doing the same to join and I would be one of them. 9 times out of 10 anything anyone has learned about furthering or making a go towards anything related online has been learned through sources such as the community here at GPWA. It's just good online karma to to join the communities which have helped a person to really learn and after a certain point giving back to help keep the recycle of online life going.

You have members even in this thread stemming from 2005 still sharing insight which is very cool and enjoyable to see.

Like most things in life....the more you put in the more will get out....it is a very crowded market BUT there are always ways of generating money. Do your homework...and stick with it.....I still believe there is nice money in being a casino affiliate...

I started properly in 2013 and even in the space of 3 years I've noticed it getting harder into 2016.

A few reasons including:
- Google doing 4 PPC ads plus tables pushing down organic listings
- The rise of mobile, an opportunity for some yes, but tracking clearly has some issues
- The rise of professional affiliates, i.e. companies with 5-100 workers, playing for keeps and churning out large amounts of sites
- The downturn of many affiliate programs resulting in lower revenues at certain programs, possible causes = seemingly larger admin payments, POC tax, general shaving and lack of respect for affiliates etc etc

Having said all that, I still wouldn't put anyone off giving it a go. How will you know unless you give it a chance? You might find you're really good at it or find a niche that hasn't yet been plundered. We're fighting over less pie these days, but the pie is still there and it's still quite tasty. Mmm, pie.

Age old thread, but well worth bringing back to life.

Even if you're an old affiliate you'll still have to keep reinventing not only your product but also yourself. There are only a handful who got such a foothold in the market that they don't need to change.

And there's always room for a new affiliate with a fresh idea who understands the new audience and technology better than some old affiliate. That will never change.

One example is the rise of smartphones, eventually forcing almost everyone to design a mobile responsive site this year. Then there are apps for Android and iPhone which were unheard of only several years ago. There are Google algo changes. Voice search. Millenials with their new views on life. Social media are also relatively new and few affiliates make good use of them. Augmented reality just entered the stage this year.

So, yes, you can be big if you're a new affiliate, nothing's stopping you. But the barrier to entry is getting higher, as RacingJim said above.

We started at the beginning of 2015 and now we are a company with 2 full timers and one freelancer working on our website. And we all get a good income out of this affiliate business.
So in my opinion it is still worth setting up Gaming affiliate business.

Just because you are opening a hotel it doesn't mean you are gonna get to the level of Hilton. Plus not everyone wants to be that big, and there are plenty of family hotels that support households. Same goes for sites, I don't think why people are always trying to compare and feel less just because they are making a couple of thousands and not hundreds.

If you look at the profiles of most of the big companies today, you would notice that they showed up in the beginning of the 1900s, even earlier (Coca Cola 1886). So relax, enjoy your work and let it grow...

About Gooner's response, I gotta agree with him. My argument would be that if you need someone to tell you that you are going to make it, and literally hold your hand and give you a pat on the shoulder to go on, you don't have what it takes to pull it off, cause things will be tough and in the beginning.

On the more joke-ish side, telling someone that they won't make it, is a good way to lower the competition ha ha.
