    Default YouTube Video Copied

    Hi,

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience of YouTube videos being copied.

I have made a YouTube video and it has been on YouTube for quite a while. Whilst looking a Google I saw a complete copy of my video on Youtube.

This copied video is 100% copied with no editing at all, It appears to be on a channel that just copies videos and links to the users own website?

Are they allowed to do this? I have given them 24 hours to remove the video, but do I have any power here?

I have not read the youtube terms in a long time, you may want to read them to see if they still consider it a violation or not.

YouTube videos get copied all the time, and YouTube always removes them within a couple of hours after a legitimate complaint. The problem is, they only remove them if you complain, so every now and then you should do a search of your videos and if any stolen ones have come up report them.

It used to be after three complaints about one channel they get closed down.
People aren't allowed to copy videos without permission, although YouTube is full of copied content.

To get a video removed, you must own all rights to it. If you do, click the little flag on the infringing video in the bottom right, and select 'infringes my rights'. Follow the instructions and you should see results.

If you are using closing credits like I do (Examples: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijYvaPkPS28 | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5P-i-UktCg) and it will not be edit, then I can't see any problems.

Sometimes get copied is advertising if the source with a link or credit still remains. For video marketing you have to invest a lot of time, I don't have.

A black carlin as in the 1st video we have had in our little zoo. He was really a great entertainer.

Thanks for the great advice everyone.

The closing credits of the video do have a link to my website. This is an early video that I made and the newer ones have my website throughout the video.

I have just now filed a copyright complaint with YouTube, hopefully they will remove the video.

    Have a great Easter.

I've copied a video. I did it to remove a load of redundant stuff and generally clear it up. Seemed pretty fair use to me.

    Was it yours to "improve"?

I don't know how you'd define "ownership" in the circumstances.

If you made the video, you own it, if you didn't, then you probably don't. Its pretty straightforward.

In that case it wasn't not mine to "improve", as the previous uploader almost certainly didn't make it. It was taken from a TV show.

You must claim your ownership or copyright.
Through this youtube warns (about duplicate content) to that user which is doing this and ask for removing.

I found five of my videos were copied. Clicked on the flag and claimed copyright infringement. YouTube removed them within a few hours. It's fairly straightforward to do, just time consuming.

As far as I know, youtube engine easily detects dublicated videos. When somebody republishes your video, even if it is not deleted immediately, he gets a warning, something like "your video seems to be duplicated, if you own this video, please contact ....", and such videos automatically go down in the search results.

Secondly, I think if you send a complain to google, they will delete the duplicated video, and most probably delete the account of the person using your videos.

Depending what kind of the videos you are making, actually it is not that bad if someone republishes your video in or outside youtube. To protect yourself, just add a watermark in the full video something like "see more at ....com" and there you go - if someone republishes you, you get addition exposure of your website for free
