    Ladbrokes Database offered for sale

    Quote

"The confidential records of millions of British gamblers who bet with top bookmaker Ladbrokes have been offered for sale to The Mail on Sunday.
The huge data theft is now at the centre of a criminal investigation after this newspaper was given the personal information of 10,000 Ladbrokes customers and offered access to its database of 4.5 million people in the UK and abroad.
Last night we alerted Ladbrokes to the damaging security breach and handed the customer files to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), Britain's data watchdog, which immediately began to investigate.
The records include customers' home addresses, details of their gambling history, customer account numbers, dates of birth, phone numbers and email addresses."

I wrote an article about this kind of thing on several UK brands.

I was harassed and stalked on Facebook and via the phone and eventually ended up with a lawsuit against me.

Quite the reverse - they know it has been accessed; The Mail received 10,000 names, account numbers, addresses, date of births and emails as a taster.

10 000 names and details is nothing, They may not even have anything to do with Laddies.

I was a manager for Ladbrokes Racing for 5 years and the security measures they have in place are pretty darn hot

Importantly this does not effect customer passwords or banking data.

I certainly give far more credence to the racing post than the mail thats for sure

The quotes attributed to the PR head of Ladbrokes is confirmation enough i would think

So yeah i agree it does seem so, worrying really that this can happen.

If this is the case it is very damaging to Ladbrokes. They are an ultra professional company. If there is a case of customer data being leaked, I'm sure it is not due to negligence on their part.

It only takes one IT guy who's disgruntled to do something like that. I would like to know the general security protocol they use for data management.

Agreed. Ladbrokes would have reviewed the 10,000 taster list and seen they were all customers. They are worried enough to be scrambling fast on this so I reckon they are convinced the entire list is stolen.

According the Herald Sun (Melbourne paper) the dude who owns the company that is in alleged position of the list is getting calls from Ladbrokes.

Wonder id he's getting calls from any other online gambling companies wanting to get a look at the list also?

Unethical isnt it? Sadder is many in this industry turn their heads to this type of unethical behavior. They ignore it happens, because ignoring gives them opportunity to flourish. Its down right sickening!

Some affiliates spoke out saying they would never attend an event which CAP profited from yet they sing the praises of the CAC show and its organizer who runs a forum that has for years been a breeding ground for the exact same kind of unethical behavior!!!

Myself and several others brought this up a while back more or less forcing the hands of the GPWA to at least come out and speak against the activities - nothing has changed though. The individual / site in question still permits this to happen, the GPWA still ignores the wrong doing, instead choosing, just as they have with the LAC(CAP) to promote and support the event(s) for their own personal benefit!

Clearly for some an ethical workplace is not a priority & for others its never even a consideration! They can babble about trying to always say the "right" things, but their actions speak much louder than those words! IMO, if they continue to walk down that path - their days of reign will come to an end sooner rather than later and we will all be better off for it.

I guess we will know pretty soon if the sale of this sensitive data has taken place by an increase in spam and fraud on the affected gamblers.

    Webmacho

And exactly what do you want to do with it?

It appears you have nothing against sending spam to (or calling) mailing lists, even if the list is stolen by an alleged unethical employee of a Casino?Sportsbook.
