I agree - w3 schools is great.

http://www.chami.com/html-kit/ - an awesome html toolkit - free download - easy learning curve - create the html content in the editor - preview it as you go - then, when you're happy with the finished product, simply copy and paste it into your website.
This is based on what i was using back in the late 90s early 00s and may not be as well thought of these days. But when i first started it was commonly used by lots of html designers. I always used Elizabeth Castro's book (an actual paperback) called:
HTML, XHTML, and CSS:
The latest edition is the 6.0. I've purchased several editions over the years.

Firstly, agreed with benthomaslee
www.w3schools.com is one of the best websites you will ever come to know.
Also, the book AmCan suggests is something I would highly recommend.
I started teaching myself HTML when I was in my early teens and everything I learnt came from that book. (BTW my background is in web developing)...
If you need any help with anything, please don't hesitate to hit me up on msn. I'm sure GamTrak can vouch for me - I'm very useful in that way and no point keeping it all to myself :)
