Sky Bet?!

We dropped SkyBet a couple of years ago when they implemented quotas to steal from small affiliates.

We could have continued as a higher band affiliate - but the signs of poor management and low ethics were clear - especially with the complete lack of discussion with affiliates, and the "dont-give-a-f@#k" attitude in their limited communication.

When we closed our account you could almost read the "grin" in their reply - easy money for them.

Today's news just makes our decision seem so much better.

Rather than take them to court I will leave them on my sites but show a wrong offer. When their legal team get in touch I will ask for compensation in return for removing the freebet/offers.

It would be interesting if affiliates did the same, it would kind of bite Sky Bet in the ass.

In terms of a settlement figure I'd be happy with 3x Average yearly earnings and then they can do one. This is something I may start to ask operators for in a contract moving forward.

Personally I feel it has nothing to do with regulatory matters it's more to do that they simply dont need affiliates no more.

They sponsor Championship League, Own all the sports tv channles to run adverts, have some of the best sporting websites so they can push their brand via those channels.

Well they won't need affiliates when Google bizarrely ranks them no1 for just about any gambling keyword. Lets hope that changes soon, then see how much they need their affiliates.

Also my guess is this was already in the pipes when they cut the commission to 5%. Cutting it to 5% was just to soften the blow on thieving the full amount.

Do you know when in 2010? We signed up in around September that year I think.

Wow, pretty much the most twattish thing I've ever heard anyone say in the industry. How up their own arse are Oddschecker?! Eurgh.

They welcome affiliates being screwed cos they're not a 'traditional affiliate'. Erm, I think that's how you started out guys (if any of the original cast are still there after the Skybet buy out). What a weapon.

I suppose this does not apply to oddschecker given as to who owns them. But it will be interesting who racingpost.com and attheraces have to say about this. Being offered a private deal is no guarantee a new owner or CEO will not change it.

It would suit the big bookies and the big sports website affiliates for the UK government to bring in licencing and regulation for affiliates if they know they can get away with ending agreements based on 'unfair' terms and condiitions.

I imagine this will be the next step if this move goes uncontested.

Its in their best interest that other affiliates are getting screwed over. They're a market leader and killing off the small guys means more £££ for them. No doubt they've enjoyed this just as much as the shareholders at CVC Capital Partners have.

The big guys probably will have bulletproof contracts with their most important partners. As a public listed company with investors and stuff, you can't rely on some one-sided written t&c document. They make a deal with the company, not with a CEO.

Regulation for affiliates will also kill a lot of small affiliates. I'm active in Romania. License costs like € 12.000 at once and then € 6.000 a year. Romania, with a price level of not even the half of the UK and a way smaller market. Almost all domestic affiliates were not able to get a license and had to remove their links and banners.

I think a good start would be to get better contracts. Unite or something, focus a bit more on a bulletproof contract instead of 2,5% extra or $ 10 CPA extra... Also their should aways be a "release fee" in the contract. Lifetime is such a bullshit and not worth anything. Why not put there 1, 2, 3, whatever years as compensation fee if a contract will be terminated. Than everybody knows how and what. Makes more impression in court too.

Anyone got a copy of the contract as of 1st Nov 2015? or as near that date you can get? i.e when the FU clause was introduced.

This kind of thing with Footyaccums and some other dodgy tipsters have been evident for years. I am sure we will see many more of these kinds of articles popping up in the coming weeks.

Surely it is the bookmakers who should be compelled to check their affiliates under their licence?

It would be much easier that licensing everyone with a website.

Any gambler who follows a tipster that does not publish their results or is only on social media is asking to be ripped off.

Wow this is some pretty shoddy behaviour from Skybet, pulling in favours from related sites to continue their affiliate-bashing narrative and give some kind of justification to their affiliate screw, there are obvious links between Sky/Skybet/Oddschecker/Football365 under that umbrella even if Skybet did get sold off to new owners.
