SOUTH AFRICA – As reported by the South Africa Herald: "If you can't beat them, join them . . . or at least regulate them. That is the attitude that the government has adopted towards the rapidly expanding online gambling industry.
"Having learnt from the United States that outlawing online gambling does little to solve the problem, the government is now on course to legalise it.
"But while it is trying to formulate legislation to control online gambling, more and more South Africans are becoming addicted to gambling at virtual casinos.
"The National Responsible Gambling Programme (NGRP) said yesterday that problems associated with online gambling were beginning to manifest themselves.
"…The government is expected to publish legislation before the end of the year that will regulate online gambling…"
