Can the legally bet ie on e-sports? Is it just the overseas thing why they were arrested? The positive thing for me from this is that there must be a big need for bets in the Asian region.

1.) Gambling is illegal in Thailand too (except lottery and bets on Thai Boxing).
2.) Many citizens of South Korea live in Thailand. I am not surprised if they accepted bets from this people too.

If we mean Far East And Sout-East Asia:
Online Gambling is legal in Phillipines (but if you don't accept local players). Most gambling operators, that targeting on Asian market physically based on Philippines.

Offline Gambling is legal in: SAR (Special Administrative Region of Chinese People Republick) Macau and Singapure.
This is the two largest offline gambling areas in the world. Also offline gambling legal in Genting, Malasya, but only for
foregeners (except muslim players), some areas of Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos, Phillipines and Far East Russia.
Also gambling exist in South Korea. As i know, Vietnam and South Korea have some restriction for local players.
Several years ago North Korea also have offline casino targeting on Chinese visitors. But this casino was closed after
Chinese government pressure. I am not sure about Taiwan.

In Japan gambling forbidden, but they allow "pachinko" - this is Japanese version of slot machines.

Online gambling in Thailand is a definite no no. It makes you wonder what they were thinking.

Yeah. They just did not pay the right people. Most of the larger operators work the establisments to crush the competition. In Asia you can do anything with having the right connections and paying cut to the locals. Its a messed up system and as a westerner I would have no part in it but its been like this for thousands of years and i dont expect it to change.

Its such a Tight Rope we walk in the industry isn't it .. Wouldn't we all love to just be left to our own devices and allowed the choice to gamble or not but I guess we have to into account political situations as well as cultural ones which are overlooked all to often in the chase for a quick buck Thai Jails are not fun hoping they will be lenient
