Cookies will be prohibitted by new EU law?

Been waiting for someone to see this.. We have till Arpil 26th 2011, but we already use sessions and IP's in addition. I know rewards does also..

Apart from cookies, we also use sessions and query string.

Maybe they will forget about it by april 2011

This is something affiliates should be concerned about. Glad to see some programs tracking multiple ways. Hopefully others will follow their lead soon.

Thanks for the update. I'm not sure how well something like this would work. I feel like doing something like this may have some harmful effects-like crashing or slowing down computers. Typically, creating checks like this, even if small, tend to crash systems, at least at the beginning. Any thoughts on this? Where are the IT gurus?

I think the problem lies in that casinos have to show a pre-warning upon entering the casino site, that the visitor's computer will be cookie'd and some non-techie people will think that it is harmful as they don't know anything about cookies.
It can result in fewer conversions.

On the other hand, session tracking is dangerous to affiliates too, as imagine the scenario: Player visits the casino through your tracker, session is opened for him, he downloads the software but after downloading he closes his browser when he is installing and registering his account. When the browser is closed, the session is closed as well, so the affiliate won't be tagged to the player. (My best example is my mum, she hates more than one window being open, so when she starts something new, she closes browsers/applications because she just can't stand them being open lol.)

What I never understand is why software providers force the registration from the software, why players cannot register on the casino website and after registering they can download the casino. You can't even play in fun mode without registering, so the process can happen the other way around. Register first, then download.... This way sessions could work 100% too at tracking players.

Wont be an issue with any MGS group because the download application looks for an affiliate tag that must be passed on query string, therefore no cookies or sessions are used.
