    Default Top 5 for affiliates

I’m trying to decide on a “Top-5” list for UK bookies, with the focus on premier league football.

I’ve compiled a list of decent brands below, from a player’s perspective, with factors like best odds on premier league matches, bonus offers, user experience…etc.

If you could chose only 5 from this list, as an affiliate, which brands would you go with? I know that some of these brands have been involved in questionable practices, but it would be great to see them ranked anyway.

Also if you think I’m missing any from the list let me know. Cheers.

    In no particular order;

    Ladbrokes
    Bet Fred
    Sky Bet
    William Hill
    Bet Victor
    Paddy Power
    Bet Fair
    Bet 365
    Coral
    Stan James
    Bet Bright

If we were starting again now from scratch, then Betfred, Betfair and Coral are the only ones from that list that we would join. The rest either have NCO or, as you rightly spotted, predatory terms. Or in some cases both.

Seriously i have no idea about any kind of UK bookies, but a sense of marketing and conversion knowledge.

Gambling traffic can be pretty strange. And whats the best choice for 10% of your customers, could be worst for the rest, but maybe the conversions and deposits are so amazing ...

I would start with any 5 of your choice, doesn't matter. Run this offers for a month or better three, change the offers ... complain, repeat.
With a bunch of good offers to start with, you can´t lose a significant amount of money, but nobody can told you the best bookies/casinos for your traffic.

You need to check the terms for any of those in the list, as noted above, some have anti-affiliate predatory terms.

For what it's worth, from the list I'd go for Bet Fred, Ladbrokes, Bet 365.

Check for referral minimums before signing with any though. Perhaps a search on these forums will gain you more insight into what's happened in the past with the programs and will help choose.

Bet365 would be my only pick but that's just me.

Well I can tell you the ones that we promote ...

    Ladbrokes
    Bet Fred
    Bet Victor
    Paddy Power
    Bet 365
    Coral

All good for players, some issues with affiliate deals at BetFred, Paddy Power and Ladbrokes so make sure you understand what you are signing up for and get a specific rate and/or terms if you are not comfortable.

Of the other five names you mentioned :
SkyBet are predatory - minimum 5% rate?!! - I cannot recommend them.
William Hill are just so poor in paying that we dropped them - and they are being sold to 888.con so will only get worse.
Betfair are always changing affiliate terms - reducing payouts - and do not seem to value affiliates.
    StanJames never appealed to me.
BetBright I have never even looked at.

From player point of view: Coral, WH, Bet365, BetVictor and either Stan James or Paddy Power.

From affiliate point of view I would agree with TheGooner.

How did you compile the list from a player perspective?
From a player perspective I'll give you my comments as, unless you are on CPA deals that can be important too

Ladbrokes - adequate, but do limit bet size quite quickly at time

Bet Fred - pretty terrible and from an affiliate view, hard to convert

Sky Bet - fine, in my top 3 places to play. from affiliate view 5% though pfffttt

William Hill - rarely use the site so can't comment

Bet Victor - seem fine although haven't used them for long, about 6 months.

Paddy Power - fine, and regularly have good offers on for punters

Betfair - I usually only use them for the exchange, and from an affiliate view, the commission is terrible for that

Bet 365 - fine, fast paying, very very good offers, from affiliate point of view, the offers can cripple you and neg carryover

Coral - customer service is terrible but apart from that excellent, including being able to withdraw cash from shop. However, from an affiliate view if a customer deposits using connect then spends it online you don't get paid, which, without going into the in's and outs of the scheme can be terrible.

Stan James - awful. I opened an account over Cheltenham, put £10 on a horse that lost, tried to in the next race and was limited to £1.61. Tried on a football treble and was the same, £1.61 max stake (combined odds were around 3/1). I have also seen numerous complaints about this same thing on many forums. From an affiliate point of view, why promote someone on rev share that won't take bets from anyone?

Bet Bright - not used them

If starting again from scratch then would struggle to justify any UK bookie except bet365. Very serious problems with most of the others. An absolute distance behind bet365 in 2nd, 3rd and 4th places come coral, skybet (if you can guarantee 5 depositers every month or you are screwed) and betfred. If you can make any real money with Betfair then you must be able to defy gravity. Gooner proved paddy power's rip-off hidden deductions are up to 86% here. The rest are also abysmal for affiliates. As for players, well you can't get a bet on with any of them if you make the mistake of stringing some winners together. Really the uk bookies are an absolute shower (and that is why bet365 does so well). There is no top 5.

Shame Skybet brought in the 6+ new depositors rule as, from a punters pov their probably the best UK bookmaker for the Premier League - Super 6, Skybet Club, the best Price Boosts.

From the posts above, I'd agree Unibet could be on the good list but certainly not Bet Victor.

Found Unibet tracking awful in the last few months but I believe they've sorted it out. OK with BetVictor although they did bring in neg carryover at the start of the year.

Must admit when I read these good/bad affiliates I disagree with as many that I agree with!

Of course not, it's the main point of this site to highlight those issues. Any affiliate program which doesn't realise most big affiliates were once small are doomed to fail. Not sure I'm exactely heaping praise on BetVictor anyway, given you say you still promote them I assume you consider them 'OK' aswell.

When you have been promoting a good program for many years, in our case some of them for 13 years or more, and that good program becomes a moderate program - or worse - over time, it is then very hard / impossible / suicide to walk away from your player base. That player base may "inexplicably" be earning far less than it ought to be. But you still have to continue to work with that firm rather than walk away from thousands of referrals.

We are working with a number of firms that have gone downhill that we would not promote if starting from scratch now.

    This really made me chuckle.

Thanks for all the input everyone, some very helpful advice in there, it really is a bit of minefield.

The big fear, and as justbookies explained with bet victor, is that you put years of work into building a player base and then the programme holds all the cards. They know you'll not want to walk away, and the more valuable your player base becomes the more they will want you to walk away.

Nothing new there, I suppose it's been happening for years.

Ideally I'd like to get some assurances from affiliate managers and certain terms written into the contracts, but as a new affiliate starting out there may not be much chance of that happening.

But if I contacted everyone on my list offering them a top 5 slot, on the proviso that certain terms were included in any agreement, I wonder how that will fly?

Think I'll ask anyway, and see where that gets me.

    Cheers everyone

    Good luck, PremShip!

You might also do well to stick to the more established brand names, as newer/lesser known betting companies don't tend to convert very well.
