Post B2B iGaming SEO is weird — here’s what I’m seeing (supplier site case study)

    Hi all,
Most of the SEO talk here is about affiliate/casino review sites, which makes sense. But I’ve been working on the SEO for a B2B iGaming supplier site (slot machines — we supply to operators), and the dynamics are completely different from what I’m used to seeing in affiliate SEO.
    A few things I’m noticing:
    1. Search intent is 100% different
People searching for “best online slots” vs. “buy slot machines for casino” — the latter has way lower volume but the conversion intent is insane. One ranked page can drive actual B2B leads.
    2. Backlink sources are a different universe
No chance of getting links from casino review sites (they only link to casinos/affiliate programs). But I’m finding decent link opportunities from hospitality industry sites, arcade forums, and even some trade pubs.
    3. Google seems to treat B2B iGaming differently
My affiliate sites got hammered in the May update. The supplier site? Barely moved. Feels like Google’s quality rater guidelines hit affiliates way harder than equipment suppliers.
    Question for the group:
Has anyone here worked on SEO for a B2B gambling-industry site (not affiliate)? I feel like I’m figuring this out in a vacuum. Also curious — for those of you who’ve tried targeting operators instead of players, how did that go for you?

    Seo is seo is seo
Seo is about topics sure, but seo tactics that tend to work with igaming, link topical links, topical content, unique content, regular updates etc etc etc work across industries such as selling blue widgets, as they do when selling cars or recipes.

Obviously when writing the content or gaining links, links from a recipe site are not topical for a car seller, and writing content about blue widgets is not very effective on a travel site.

While some may agree that seo for b2 is hugely different for b2 players, it is not that big of a divide. Most best practices for seo are fairly common across most industries.

I do agree however that in the igaming industry as a whole, seo is more difficult in the fact that old school tricks (cloaked pages, hidden links, hidden text, and other such tactics) do not work like they might in other industries, but that is more due to a much much larger scope of competition and much much larger scale.

Search intent is actually more alike then you think. While players might search for where to play slots, and operator is not looking to buy slot machines. Someone looking to buy a slot, is most likely wanting one for a play room in their house, not to place in a casino as an operator. And overall, I think that most operators that are spending time search in an engine, actually have the "intent" of looking at portal sites as a general rule.

They might be looking for affiliate leads, or just generally wanting to see what others are doing for certain keywords etc.

As for backlink sources, that is blatantly obvious one, and if you are promoting sport, sure a link from a blackjack or poker site is somewhat topical, but a backlink from another sports related site is linkely stronger. (common sense here is the key)

You are not in a vacuum at the GPWA, just spend more time reading the posts and disregard whether an example on an answer discusses an affiliate site or a site selling red widgets. In fact some examples given over time tend to be real world type examples others have used on their sites.
