UFC announces investigation of fight-fixing allegations

The UFC has issued a response to recent fight-fixing allegations stemming from UFC Fight Night 263.

The controversy began Saturday on the preliminary card at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, after one bout drew attention for a sharp and suspicious betting swing followed by a puzzling performance and outcome.

In the featherweight matchup between Yadier del Valle and Isaac Dulgarian, odds on Dulgarian shifted dramatically from -250 to -154 just before the fight, according to BestFightOdds.com. Once the bout began, Dulgarian (7-2 MMA, 2-2 UFC) was quickly submitted by del Valle (10-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) in the first round. The sudden result and Dulgarian’s lack of defensive effort have since fueled skepticism among analysts.

The MMA released the following statement:

"Like many professional sports organizations, UFC works with an independent betting integrity service to monitor wagering activity on our events. Our betting integrity partner, IC360, monitors wagering on every UFC event and is conducting a thorough review of the facts surrounding the Dulgarian vs. del Valle bout on Saturday, November 1. We take these allegations very seriously, and along with the health and safety of our fighters, nothing is more important than the integrity of our sport.”

The Westgate SuperBook took the fight off the board after spotting suspicious betting activity.

“We did take bets on that fight, and the line movement was suspicious enough that we closed it on Saturday,” Westgate vice president of race and sports John Murray said.

Murray said the first two bets at the Westgate on the fight were on Del Valle at +210 and +180.

“Those first two bets raised some flags,” he said.

The prop bet odds for a first-round finish by Del Valle also plummeted from +850 to +475, and the prop was reportedly taken off the board at DraftKings sportsbook, which doesn’t operate in Nevada.

I am a bit of a fan of ufc and mma but rarely have the time to watch it much.

In any fight, any single mistake, even small one can cause a fighter to lose the bout, I wonder if they will try and come out right away where he felt sick or any other excuse etc.

I might try and fight this specific fight just to see it.

I'm sure that fixed fights are nothing new and they've been happening for many years in various sports, including boxing. I seem to recall a boxing fight between Mike Tyson and Peter McNeely in 1995, which lasted only 89 seconds, with Mike Tyson coming out as the winner.
