An interesting look at how Google's autocomplete search suggestions work
Search Engine Land has published a fairly exhaustive piece on how the autocomplete works when you're typing in search terms into Google. Some of it is what you'd expect -- popular real searches and previous searches. But there are other aspects that come into play, like geotargeting and freshness. The story also takes a look at how Google handles "protected groups" and religions. Overall, a pretty interesting read.
