Default Having Links in Your Footer With KeyWords

I was just looking at a site that I am an affiliate to (Moon Bingo) and in their footer they have loads of keywords as anchor text to their home page.

I could not help but laugh actually. Surley their SEO does not think that that will help them. I can not understand why the yahoo and Google link is there. I once heard in a forum a while back that if you link to Google that it helps your rankings. I highly doubt it however.

Hey to Moon Bingo if someone from the site uses this forum.

linking to google or yahoo on every page is probably not the best thing to do. To gamblers anonymous doesn't hurt.

The thinking behind linking to google etc.. is to raise the quality of your outgoing link profile, which some people believe particularly important for sites with a large percentage of affiliate links.

Whether it makes a difference I have no idea...

Last i heard was that google etc are downgrading footer links massively and going even further into content based SERPS.

Linking to Google or Yahoo doesn't really do anything, they are both irrelevant to online gambling, and if this actually worked, then everyone would be doing it. I think their footer links are more for navigation than SEO.

I've seen this around a few times before as well, utterly ridiculous.

It is quite common to hear in the SEO world that the quality of your outbound linking profile can affect the general portrayal of your sites in the 'eyes' of Google. However I think that this is more relevant to highlight sites which link to low quality sites and sell links, rather than to reward sites that link to high quality sources (which everyone could do easily!).

Linking to Google is pretty deranged...

It is also tip #2 on a funny website I have sent on over the years http://www.pr10.com/ - for all those webmasters who want a PR10 site

LOL! Thanx for the link. That is the funniest thing I have read so far this week..

Use invisible text but make it close - colors like 00FF33 & 00FF66 are both browser safe, but are so close most humans can't tell the difference.

Nar, them links are for SEO. Why would someone be on their site, go to the bottom of the page and go ooooo, online bingo, I best click that. They get redirected to the bingo home page. Scroll to the bottom, oooooo, uk bingo, best click that. Etc.

The whole thing where people link to that page from that page seems to be SO common. When you step back and think about it, it makes ZERO sense. The issue is with gaming sites, one person will do it and then everyone else's paranoia will kick in and they'll copy it without knowing why they're doing it!

It doesn't help the site to rank higher, it can only improve the quality of OBL. This is the only issue, I think.

linking to G and Y in the footer is very common. The idea as already explained above is to link out to sites of good reputation in order to not appear selfish with link juice. So people at some point just thought that it was a great idea to link out to the site with the best reputation, in other words these two pr10 sites. Ironically he is linking out to the .co.uk versions which seem to be only pr5. Overall pretty retard to me.

As far as I know the strategy to put keywords with links in a footer is totally useless. Neither is linking to google too often. My strategy is to a good inner linking and optimized main page (H1 and descriptions aren't left behind as well)
