Thanks for sharing this video Alex. I watched all three of them and took a page of notes. lol.

These guys certainly know what they are talking about. Their views towards blackhat vs. white seo are similar to mine. They also confirmed my belief of the normalization of links principal. (no brainer for many her)

Alex, please keep posting the videos!

Interesting to hear them talking about their planning - and the almost unsaid acknowledgement that they didn't really follow it.

But I'd hate to tell them that I didn't notice Betfair dominating the SE results at all ... but perhaps I was immune to really noticing but it's good that they're pleased with their efforts

Gooner, did you see the proportional increase in traffic they did on your sports sites? I realize that your content driven, but it would be interesting to hear of your traffic increases.

Yes - we did see significant traffic increases during the World Cup - we always do for major football events. People want to read about football when it's being played on TV.

June would normally be a quiet month perhaps just 25% of a busy month - with European football on holiday - but the World Cup made it busy - around 140% of the average.

We didn't do ANY link building or any offsite jiggery-pokery for any world cup term at all. No paid links, no dummy sites and mass 301 redirects, no changing of anchor text. Nothing.

We did of course make sure that the onsite and onpage SEO was correct for all the new content - but that was the limit of our SE endevours.

Google found the content quickly, indexed it, and obviously served it up as options to lots of keyword searchers despite the fact that the content frequently had very few external links to it at all.

We had about 340,000 visits in June - roughly 80,000 of those visit came from SE keywords.

Acquired a clue from here. I think it is wise to take note of all the major upcoming events and create related contents a month or a week before to get some attention. @Alex, nice video!

Just watched this video and this is probably one of the best seo sessions I have seen from the conferences. You should definitely get these 2 back for London as they seem to really know what they are talking about and good at getting their points accross.
