Table and felt colours - How much impact can it make?

Hi All,

Being fairly new to the online casino scene and soon to be an operator, I wanted to ask people with a wealth of subject knowledge "Do table and felt colours affect the performance of a game?" I am hoping to launch a site at the end of May and I wanted to ask the GPWA members opinion as to which colours perform best and which colours to avoid.

Good question!

Most table felts seem to be a dark green - offering this colour might help players as it's a familiar colour.

However, offering something different might get it noticed more but may alienate traditional players.

I agree with you about the player being able to recognisable traditional colours over a themed or super modern colour combination.

I have noticed that green is by far the most popular, but it would be interesting to see if particular games had different player time averages based purely on the table colour.

Sounds like a good idea to me and I'm sure some players would find the option attractive, as in the freedom to personalize the game to their tastes, and it would perhaps even make for easier viewing. However, I think the default colors should be as close to the traditional green as possible in order to reassure players when they encounter the game for the first time. I think the more comfortable they feel about the game the more likely they are to put some money down on it and give it go.

its possible green was derived from the billiard/pool table which was used to mimic grass.

Green or Bungundy would be my choice but it's just personal preference. Having the option to choose if probably the best route but to be honest, I think players will adjust to whatever colour if the games are good and there's plenty of action at the tables.

The software doesn't have the ability to let the customer change the felt colour on the fly, but I will think of including it as a product feature request in the future.

I agree with Doolally, if the games are good it shouldn't be a major factor to the length of the play.

Studies have shown the red intices people's energy. Green is probably used the most because it is what casino's use. Google colors and there is studies which show what colors do to people. It is pretty intersting.

We have decided to go with a range of different table felts, our particular casino software has four variations of Blackjack and we will test each colour and rotate through different colours during the first three months and find out which colour combinations work best.

I found some information on the positives and negatives impact that colours have on people.

In my opinion the best thing to do is use a combination of colours that balance each other, for example; blue and yellow, red & yellow or blue & green.

RED. Physical
Positive: Physical courage, strength, warmth, energy, basic survival, 'fight or flight', stimulation, masculinity, excitement.
Negative: Defiance, aggression, visual impact, strain.

BLUE. Intellectual.
Positive: Intelligence, communication, trust, efficiency, serenity, duty, logic, coolness, reflection, calm.
Negative: Coldness, aloofness, lack of emotion, unfriendliness.

ORANGE.
Positive: Physical comfort, food, warmth, security, sensuality, passion, abundance, fun.
