Proposed new rules could destroy South Africa’s .ZA domain space

I am not sure if it will be decimated or not, but I think this is a move that could cause a great deal of harm. This is a bit of overreach, but I bet they will just go forward with it, and not even pay attention to the warnings and statements of some of the registrar and hosting spokespersons. On 22 April, ZADNA proposed controversial regulatory changes to South Africa’s .ZA namespace, including:
- Registrars must collect the ID documents of people registering .ZA domains.
- Registrars must apply for a license and pay licensing and registrar fees.
- Registrars must provide ZADNA with access to their environments upon request for audits.
I think many of the larger Registrars globally will just stop managing renewals of the tld, although I have not confirmed that.
