Is the .co.za domain space about to be destroyed?

Proposed new rules could destroy South Africa’s .ZA domain space

On 22 April, ZADNA proposed controversial regulatory changes to South Africa’s .ZA namespace, including:

• Registrars must collect the ID documents of people registering .ZA domains.
• Registrars must apply for a license and pay licensing and registrar fees.
• Registrars must provide ZADNA with access to their environments upon request for audits.

I am not sure if it will be decimated or not, but I think this is a move that could cause a great deal of harm. This is a bit of overreach, but I bet they will just go forward with it, and not even pay attention to the warnings and statements of some of the registrar and hosting spokespersons.

I think many of the larger Registrars globally will just stop managing renewals of the tld, although I have not confirmed that.

They have pretty much ignored all the questions and issues that have been brought up, I think they'll still push it through and make changes later once they realize what a train wreck it is.

China did the same with their .cn a few years ago. I had a few good crypto ones but let them go.

I'm assuming this wouldn't affect .za.com as that's not run by zadna, or are they potentially going to try and go after those as well? If not it could make them more popular?

As far as I have heard so far it is the .co.za .web.za and the dozens or more of all the other sub domains under the .za

This is easily in the many millions as I think there were more than a million co.za
