Default which country to host web site targetting EU customers?

    Hello

I am looking at starting some gambling affiliate websites targeting various countries in Europe (Scandinavia, UK, Germany, Eastern Europe), and am looking for a country to host the websites in. Right now I am looking at a US hosting company with servers available in the UK, Romania and Holland. Would any or all of these countries be safe?

Also, as a side question, what kinds of servers are you experience guys running your sites on? Would a shared server be OK for the first couple of years?

    Thanks for your help

    Hi there,

Hope you're having a good day.

In my experience Holland is the best country to host a website for Europe because Holland is right in the middle of Europe. You want your server to be as close to your visitors as possible, so Holland is a nice centralized location for all of Europe.

As for whether shared hosting will be OK for the first couple of years, that really depends. Hopefully it isn't, because if your website is still being hosted on shared servers in 2 years time it means that it is still small and not making much money. Needing a bigger server is often a sign that your website is growing and making more money, so needed a better Web Hosting solution is definitely not a bad thing.

Whether or not a shared server will be OK in the early stages really depends on what kind of website you want to build.

Will you be using a CMS like Wordpress?
How many plugins will you be using?
Will you be using Geo Targetted Ad's which takes a lot of server power to run and makes website caching complicated?
Will you be allowing users to create accounts?
Will you be adding Forums and Chat Rooms?

The answers to these questions will influence whether shared hosting will be suitable for the early stages of your website.

If you are just building a basic content based website then shared hosting will probably be fine, but bear in mind that poor page load speeds will have an impact on your Google ranking and usability.

If you could give me some more information on the type of website you are looking to build, I will be able to give you more specific advice around Web Hosting.

    I will say this though...

Like with anything in life, you get what you pay for. If you pay for cheap, low quality shared hosting you can often run into a lot of problems like your website getting hacked, slow page load speeds and unhelpful support. It's often much better to spend a little bit more and get a quality service. Shared web hosting is plagued by Malware issues and it can be a real headache to fix problems associated with hosting a website on a server that isn't that secure or well maintained.

I hope this post has helped you. I have a lot of experience in hosting websites, so I can help you further once I know more about your website. Thanks alot

thanks for the feedback. The website will be a simple content-based site built in WP so I will start with a shared plan and as the visits grow I will port it to a VPS or dedicated box. So, in general, Holland is an OK place legally to host gambling-related content, is that right?

    Hi ambergambler!

Really any hosting company with servers in Europe should be fine for you. I personally host most of my websites in Saint Petersburg, because it's much cheaper than any other european hoster (I pay 4eur a month for a reliable service )), loading speed is fine as well.

Wow your binary site is fast, do you only host binary sites in Russia or do you do any casino/sportsbook too?

If I may ask, which host do you use in St Petersburg?
