Google + doesn't impact to search ranking

Despite the fact that according to Matt Cutts quality and shared in social media content is the only right way to promote a website, Matt Cutts claimed that links from Google + don't have influence on search ranking. The fact is that Google+ passes PR and allows anchor text.
So what do you think about it? Role of social networks in websites promotion was overestimated, wasn't it?

Not necessarily.. maybe Google can check the traffic volumes from a specific social site to estimate the attraction and by this give better ranking.

FB, Google+, Twitter are must have nowadays, but, in fact, their influence on ranking and site promotion is exaggerated. Social networks are effective for brand development.

One thing I have found to really help when starting campaigns is getting all the social side setup and even paying for social shares from trusted services. I've seen pretty good results improving top level pages on my sites just by throwing a bit of social love at them.

I have noticed in search that now it show the author of a post or page and how many circles he/she is in. How do you do that? Im assuming it is in Google + but how do you link your google + page to posts on your website? How does Google know that you the author have x number of circles when you are posting to your website but obviously it is pulling that other info from your Google+ page.

It is interesteing because they seem to get pretty good ranking.

I think that I have written about this in another post. However Google + has great communities that people can get involved in. I have joined communities and asked permission if I can post my link if it is relative to the community. They community owner had no problem with it, and even if it does not directly effect my serps, it is engaging potential customers which is valuable.

I think it does effect Serps though, I posted up a graph I put on pintrest.

FYI, for the link to be do-follow it must be posted and inserted within the Google plus, not just shared from your website.

Another thing to take into consideration is that many social media guys claim that using bitly on facebook and twitter help the crawlers find your link and because it is a 301 redirect not a 302 it is a do-follow. I am not sure about this, I think the article was from Don Crowther

It's interesting. As far as I know Links on Google+ is do-folow anyway.

You shouldn't think of social media as a method of SEO in itself, just see at as an alternative source of great targeted traffic (if you can get it)

I don't have any personal experience whether Google+ has an impact on your rankings, but it definetly makes a quicker indexation of new pages, and furhtermore a google+ profiler hooked up with author tag has given me a greater CTR for my blogposts in google SERP.
