    Default (Extra) Taxes for affiliates

The new gambling law in Romania (Directive 98/34) has a strange requirement for affiliates.
They need to pay 6000E / year.

We are not talking about a tax on profit or something. This is different and they say this way they can control and protect the industry. More, they even insist some tax like this is in almost every country out there, considering it involves gambling and money. Lol?

So if a young romanian Entrepreneur wants to start in the affiliate domain, he has to come up first with 6000e.
Does this even exist in any other country?
Is it in compliance with European Commission directives?

    Cheers

It sounds like you are talking about a license fee of some sort? At a cost of 6000 euro a year?
    No that's not commonplace.

As KazinoPortal has mentioned there are some licensing fees for some of the markets in the US - but those are the only ones I know of - and their costs are one-offs - and nowhere near 6000 per year.

So far no such flat fee exist in EU I guess. But there are flat fees for gambling licenses. Trend is that affiliates are taken not as marketers, but as casinos/betting shops.

It does not matter if it makes common sense or not, imo. What matters is if they have power to enforce it. Moving offshore makes more and more sense. Revealing of identity makes less and less sense.
