That is the goal to these type of big statements. Try to cause panic across webmasters, maybe target these that start removing way too many backlinks because they are revealing themselves this way.

I personally think the most interesting 'new' development in SEO is the Patent Google just acquired.

Well they need to something, the google SERPS are the worst I've seen in a very long time.

and I ain't saying that because I lost traffic... just the opposite, I gained about 40% in traffic... but it's traffic to keywords I have never targeted.

If you read about that patent I posted, you'll see that google is targeting the behavior of people who runs/operates the site.

According to the patent, if google sees a site/page is making changes specifically for SEO purposes, they will take a random action like raise or lower the pages ranking for certain keywords. Then google will watch for the REACTIONS of the webmaster. If google determines the reaction of the webmaster are the actions of a SPAMMER... well you can guess the rest.

lots0 that confirms my thoughts. I think the safest strategy is to build slow natural backlinks and just wait to see what happens. Big sudden link removals or too much new backlinks won't be good for the site long term.

So the patent itself is for something they have had in the algo for more than 2 YEARS!

In my opinion this is NOT something new they will start, but something they have been using for years.

I personally don't think with something like this that they would wait to get the patent before starting to use it.

Then one better ditch the webmaster tools site verification because all is there for google to know you, even better when using analytics............

@Rick, I think your right about the time frame. It was about two years ago that Google SEO really started changing.
The guy the patent was awarded to Ross Koningstein, is a long time google employee.

They would not apply for the patent until they KNEW the code actually worked. So this may have been in the algo for longer than 2 years.

But I do think they are ratcheting this area up, to go along with their current stupid animal named algo changes... Personally I think the next google update should be named "Warthog"... to go along with their quality results.

@GCG I agree. Far too many webmasters are willing to give away their valuable information to google for the use of some tools.
But I see a day soon when a site won't get indexed by google, unless it is a verified site that uses WMT and Analytics.

I still use google WMT, simply because the info that WMT has is traffic info that google has anyway, as the traffic is all from google.

But I did drop Analytics quite some time ago... using Analytics is really just giving all your sites important traffic information to google for the use of a tool... The site owner gets the short end of the stick, IMO.

The only thing Google and All Team want to make is making the WEB a good place to surf! That is all. So let's not focus on the updates etc and work work work ! Do not cheat! Do not make any scams and do not spend money rather spend effort!
