Ranking Sites? Worth it or Not?

[whichy]

Ok we've all seen them (we've all got them!) but are they any good for driving traffic.

I've seen many sites with links pages that are crammed full of links to other Ranking Sites. When you actually look at a lot of these ranking lists they are in fact full of ....... well..... other ranking sites!

Do they bring traffic? If they do which are the best ones?

Are there still enough newbies coming online that actually believe that the lists they see are kosher?

Do they help on SEO? Some Search Engines/Directories judge a site by the number of links into a site. Do links from/to ranking pages count? If they do they count if you are not displayed on a site?

Any thoughts?
