Earlier there was a very agressive bot apparently trying to suck content off of the GPWA website. That caused some issues until we blocked the offending ip address.

Wonder if that is what has been happening to me. My forum was attacked by some bots using the .ru and gmail yesterday that kept me at the forum fighting for over 2 hours yesterday.

They were using different IP's so I could not use that method. I finally changed my registration options to question/answer and that seemed to stop them and I was able to go to bed in peace. I think they were back this morning as I had over 40 guests, but no new registrations.

Fighting this type of thing is getting out of hand. I'm very upset over wasting valuable time on this kind of thing.

Is it possible to get a small 'tutorial' here about such attacks, how you identify them and what can be done against them?

    Michael,

Can you let us know the offending IP?

Our webmaster forum in kahuki resorted in not allowing free emails to avoid blackhat seo spammers. We also had a struggling day before thus we end up cutting free mails to our forum.

I don't think I would ever stop accepting accounts from free mail sites as I don't know of any normal player that does not use free mail. This would cut down on the registration of legit players and not an option for me. I'd rather fight the spammers if that is my option.

    Am I missing something?

I think it depends with the reputation of your forum. Our kahuki forum is already around for some time and has high PR and SE crawl frequency which some abuse through spamming their links to each of the forum section.

It is evident that most of their backlinks solely came from our forum.

LOL I think you mis-understood my post.

The reputation is irrelivant. I'm refering to a potential player finding your site and registering at your forum in order to take advantage of an offer that may be an exclusive on your site in order to play at a igaming site.

There are benefits of requiring that person to register in order to get the exclusive that I'm sure I don't need to post.

Why would I want to not allow free email accounts? That is my point.

Maybe. It depends with your forum I think. Mine wasn't casino related just to make the point clear.
