    Default Helpful Content Update Recoveries

Interesting comments filtering through that there was some kind of 'silent' Google update in the week that has seen a number of sites that were hit by the original HCU update recovering.

    A couple of examples:
    https://x.com/zrkann/status/1887182395692183702
    https://x.com/JasonJonesJoe/status/1886407701682614446

Has anyone on here who was hit by HCU seen a similar recovery these past few days?

Looking at those tweets, especially the second one - the guy's organic traffic is maaaaassive. With that in mind, I am not sure me and him are even playing the same game at the moment.

Nonetheless, I personally, haven't been hit by HCU, actually, quite the opposite, my traffic increased 2-3 fold after HCU.
It has dropped, however, following some of the recent updates. Not to a point where I'd be panicking, but still.

I wouldn't say massive, not for mainstream (I think his site is about shaving).

Yeah 35k for a casino bonus site would be big, but for something with a wider appeal it's not uncommon - I think the minimum for mediavine ads is 50k UV/month at the moment so they wouldn't even qualify for that.

Besides, if you were just doing adsense on the site (ie: no mainstream aff) on an average niche, you could be looking at $5 RPM. So 35k page views would only be about $175 in ad rev. That shaving site blatantly has affiliate ads as well, but just highlighting the difference in traffic value.

Mainstream and igaming are totally different ballgames, try not to compare between them in terms of numbers.

It's a small world, as they say, and I know Jason, so I understand the struggles he went through when the HCU hit. It's been a rollercoaster, and I never thought I'd see him pop up on an iGaming forum.

Yes, I guess you are right there, the niche does make a huge difference in traffic value.

Lots of the sites I work on were boosted hard in November and then tanked back to levels from months before.

Massive jumps like this are an anomaly. Just keep revising content to ensure originality and helpfulness, and the rankings will slowly crawl back up.

One of my sites got penalised mid March 2024, for and traffic dropped to 0 and I let the site to be and didn't do anything to it. Then in mid December 2024 it re-surrected in rankings and now ranks better then ever before. It still puzzles me what really happened..

There was a small core update from 12th-18th December, perhaps there was something in that which helped your site - good news whatever it was that helped you!

As well as the core updates, there were spam updates in March and December. If you found your site recovered around the time of the second spam update (which wasn't at the same time as the core) then it was probably relating to the spam updates. If so it's probably not HCU related.

We noticed something similar for a few sites. Including some that dropped to zero that spurred back to life and now have more traffic than they used to. Eg: https://snipboard.io/lFmkpJ.jpg

Note the timing of the traffic uptick: https://snipboard.io/N5XGAz.jpg - it aligns with the spam update, not the core.

Supposedly they are also trying to surface more smaller sites that create great content. I have seen some ups and downs but still nowhere near pre Sept 2023
