How long did it take to the journalist to invent a term "backdoor algorithm"?

As bet365 wrote in the article, everyone is doing risk management. Bet365 do it just better than others. Not because they can restrict winners, because everyone can do it easily. But because they let the idiotic gambling whales play even when the betting pattern is not so obvious or when they win big. This way bet365 bring high money to affiliates as well.

Ms Coates, guessing there's no Mr. Anyone have her phone number?

All jokes aside, I don't see what the problem is.

Land based casinos have been doing this for years.

All casino software is rigged. Additional scripts run in the background all the time to detect activity that can hurt the house.

For sports winners, I'm not sure if this works, unless the games and players are themselves fixed. At best, they could restrict the repeated winner from placing bets "in time" or "modify odds" to make the whole thing unattractive.

In the forex trading world, if the brokers can't get them to lose money; they just temporarily freeze the platform, until the opportunity passes away; later claiming "backend technical issues."

Can you please elaborate how "normal" casino operators exactly would do that? Personally i highly doubt that they manipulate RNGs. The only dishonest way i have seen so far - besides those operators who use pirated software of course - were bots participating in tournements and pushing players to invest more/not giving promised prizes to the players (which is still bad and i really hope this will backfire at one point).

Anyways, the article is rubbish. Just have a look at this: "James Poppleton, who worked at the company for 18months, told ABC News that online data is used to tell Bet365 how many bets you’ve placed, your total turnover, and your win or loss ratio to the company. He explained how the algorithm kicks in to ensure big winners could no longer bet large sums of money.
Although it is normal for betting companies to limit professional and highly successful gamblers from taking part, it is believed that Bet365 is one of the first companies to broaden its use."

Neither the journalist who wrote this article nor mr Poppelton seem to have any knowledge about sportsbetting at all. Just check the original Source ABC news: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-12-...elays/11768486

"Mr Poppleton worked for 18 months as a customer account supervisor at bet365."

How does this qualify him as an expert for sports betting? It is sad to see what happend to media.

Very sad and funny article and thread. Maybe the poor guy made bets on other man/woman behalf and just created this stupidity.

Working as CS rep. does not and can not give you any knowledge to make such massive statements.
