Royal gamble goes astray as zara and mike chose mia grace

the royal gamble on zara philips and mike tindall’s daughter’s name has folded according to bookmaker coral, after the rugby star revealed the name mia grace on twitter this afternoon. Coral were quoting odds of 100-1 that mia would be chosen, a name that no punter managed to predict.

Coral had made poppy the 2-1 (from 40-1) favourite to be the chosen name, following a rush of bets last week, ahead of anne and charlotte which were 4-1 and 6-1 respectively.

“we saw a huge gamble on zara and mike choosing poppy for their new born baby last week, suggesting someone knew something we didn’t, but today’s news has left punters shocked,” said coral’s nicola mcgeady.

“royal punters had got it spot on when predicting that william and kate would chose george and we were sure that we’d be forced to pay-out for a second time after the gamble on poppy,” added mcgeady.

Glad you got all the money back Hodgey. Thank heavens for the royals. Saw Simon Clare on RUK last night playing it down and talking a lot of sense as usual.

I suspect one of the biggest bookies did get hit very hard and I can guess which one, but they tend never to release any statements about their big payouts (unlike most other bookies who tend to ham up the losses and then report £1billion profits at the year end).
