Default PBS Frontline have a gander!

If anyone has any time tonight please give these a view. The show is Frontline broadcasted on PBS. The first one titled “Growing Up Online” just released. The second one “Spying On the Home Front” it relates to the Patriot Act.

Both are very good! Maybe have a gander at the Frontline archives for the year 2001 as well. If you dig deeper you just may find me in there somewhere?

MySpace. YouTube. Facebook. Nearly every teen in America is on the Internet every day, socializing with friends and strangers alike, "trying on" identities, and building a virtual profile of themselves--one that many kids insist is a more honest depiction of who they really are than the person they portray at home or in school.

In "Growing Up Online," FRONTLINE peers inside the world of this cyber-savvy generation through the eyes of teens and their parents, who often find themselves on opposite sides of a new digital divide. From cyber bullying to instant "Internet fame," to the specter of online sexual predators, FRONTLINE producer Rachel Dretzin investigates the risks, realities and misconceptions of teenage self-expression on the World Wide Web.

"So many people in America think this does not affect them. They've been convinced that these programs are only targeted at suspected terrorists. … I think that's wrong. … Our programs are not perfect, and it is inevitable that totally innocent Americans are going to be affected by these programs," former CIA Assistant General Counsel Suzanne Spaulding tells FRONTLINE correspondent Hedrick Smith in Spying on the Home Front

I don't get PBS here. I'd love to see it.

Greek, are you mentioned in the program?

    Thumbs up

Pretty sure you can view these programs online. I am not mentioned in the program but it does involve myself. The most I can say. If you are interested about me personally I am mentioned in 2001.

I won’t share my user but I think one other person here may know. Frontline is an excellent program for viewing. There is one other that I literally been obsessing since the beginnings of the Internet.

Not sure if I can explain properly. The show deals how the Internet was never designed nor can support the World Wide Web. How the Unix based programming language is fundamentally flawed. All the people who tried to fix it ended up making matters worse. Can anything run beyond Unix? Go behind it and view it backwards. According to some experts one day the Web will just simply break.

For me this stuff is very interesting.

    Thanks

Anyway, those who took the time to give them a view congrats. Perhaps this may offer a partial glimpse into my world. I am always there to clean up the mess.

Social networking be it Myspace or Facebook can be potentially very dangerous. Not only for youth but for adults as well.

The second one should put a better spin on the Patriot Act.

The third well more suited for people who would like to understand cyberspace better.

I saw the pbs show Growing Up Online last night. It was very interesting.
The world has changed immeasurably in the past few years with the advent of internet social networking. So much that we really don't have a clue how it's going to affect kids growing up.

My husband is a teacher in the local high school here, and he's seen an enormous change in kids lately. He says they just aren't the same at all. He's also witnesses 'facebook' conflicts between kids, and almost everyone has a cell phone and is busy text messaging during school hours.

Pretty darn shocking to say the least the dangers and consequences are enormous. Kids finding themselves disengaged from real life, suicide, sexually exploited, etc… Social networking on this scale is a complete tragedy. If you buy your child a PC please preinstall a good keylogger program. Keep a close eye on what they are doing online. Perhaps a little education wouldn’t hurt either.

The second one http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/homefront/ can be viewed online as well. Very educational providing an in depth look at what the U.S Government maybe up to. The program probes into the online privacy issues and the fallacies of the DOJ. I really recommend this one because it answers many of those questions we have been debating regarding online gambling.

Frontline in my opinion is very good trust me and give them all a view!
