Someone Tricked Google

[TravG]

Not sure if this is the right spot to post this, but has anyone googled "USA Online Casinos" or "USA Online Slots" recently? There is a site that comes up in the top position because it says it is news. When you click the link it takes you to a website that obviously was just built for the short term because it is a one page site with just links to all the revenue jet casinos.

Obviously someone figured out a way to get google to "think" this is a news site and google has been tricked by this website. I guess kudo's to whoever figured this out but I am sure this is going to be a short lived stay at the top. (I hope so anyway)

If anyone is good at figuring this kind of stuff out take a look. I cant believe Google fell for it actually. I thought they were a little better than this.

To Nick @ revenue jet, I am sure you know who this is as the website only has rev jet brands.

Not sure what site you are referring to as I did not see the same results you did.

You will be happy to know you had 4th position on the slots search though, congrats...

Different geographic areas and different cookies will produce different results.

Thats weird you didnt see it. Thanks on the 4th! Need 2 more spots and I will be happy!

I get that news site as a top news result too. It redirects to topkasino.info It does't the same if you search for USA online slots real money.
Maybe the sites have been hacked, but I guess they cash in quick then do it with another domain. The title characters are interesting - #{:}#

[JackTenSuited]

People buy news sites than submit casino new articles (which are placed at top of results) then simply redirect any google refered traffic to there desired site.
Google does catch on eventually.

[casinovegas]

Deffo a hacked site, loads of them around at the minute. Shame the programs keep working with the people who do this.

[TravG]

Yea I know, I just didnt understand how they achieved this. I knew it had to be shady and that Google would eventually catch on, I just hope they do sooner than later.

Every casino listed is from Revenue Jet.

I see the album review site but as a paid result, there are 10 organic results under it.

This was pointed out to me by a friend a couple of weeks ago. I believe the site this was happening with at the time was 'Pale Blue News'. Again all the venues listed on the site were either AffActive or Revenue Jet.

This friend reported the site to their AM at the time and apparently the affiliate in question had their account closed. I think that's unlikely if this has reoccurred.

I think they had their account closed at Affactive which is why the brands are all now revenue jet, there was a thread at AGD

I hate stuff like this, affiliate programs should point blank refuse to work with cowboys like this as it harms the rest of us.

I was going to post a thread about that site. All week that site has been getting into my google news alerts. That is a huge spam site. The articles do not make any sense

I will let my AM at Revenue Jet know but I am guessing they do not care if was already brought to their attention. Way to go Affactive though for banning them. Thats pretty awesome.

Report the results to Google, as well as the affiliate managers. As new ones pop up, rinse and repeat.

Do you think google or dmoz is more effective shay in your opinion

More effective at what?

[baldidiot]

I've been seeing news posts popping up for all manner of terms recently - both goal.com and the mirror had one for 'free bets' last week.

[universal4]

I am not sure how effective it will be reporting a paid result, but I wonder if the page was changed to a redirect after the ad was approved.

I think Google needs to get back to changing the background color like they were forced to do years ago.

Basically Google needs a filter so that sites that are in Google news don't just come top, especially if the article is what could be classed as 'commercial content' A few years ago when Google News started, every man and his dog was getting into Google news due to it being an easy way to get top of the results. Then they shored it all up which was a good thing, now it seems like they've reverted back.

[universal4]

The problem is, the site that we questioned, was NOT a news site but an article directory.

I just did the same search again and the results are back to a standard 10 results with no paid result at the top.

By the way Travis, you got the #1 spots back on both searches in my Firefox search. In IE you are #4 for the slots search and kept the #1 on the other one.
