888 Fined Over £7.8m

888 has been fined over £7.8m whereby over 7,000 players that had self-excluded themselves from 888 casino, poker and sportsbetting were allowed access to their accounts. Although 888 had a self-exclusion procedure it was not sufficient enough to protect customers.

The fine includes repayment of funds lost to players that had self-excluded plus money stolen from an employer by a player.

I believe they are referring more to misleading advertising etc.

For example, we are responsible for an affiliate advertising an offer wrong, or having non compliant text. It's ridiculous IMO because you can't control what an affiliate puts on their site. Thems the rules though.

I thought the idea of the industry being regulated was a good move. But, since experiencing/living it, it's a joke. Bureaucrats and other people who have no experience with the gaming industry, making decisions which effect so many people, in a bad a way.

Expecting programs to police affiliates. It's a prime example how totally inapt (clueless) these Bureaucrats etc., are.

Yep and EVERY time you hear them speaking on the news (e.g. yesterday surrounding this story) it's some lefty person who wants to wrap the world in cotton wool, saying how terrible the gambling companies are. You can almost hear the disain they already have for gambling in what they say and how they say it.

Let's just ignore the fact that millions of people enjoy doing it and have a normal relationship with their gambling e.g. a fun acca each week or some in-play bets to liven up a sports event.

It reminds me a bit of boxing, I'm a huge boxing fan. Each time there is the very occasional high profile death or bad injury to a boxer, you get all the people wading in who know nothing about boxing, saying how terrible the sport is and that it should be banned. Then they all go away again and leave the people who enjoy boxing to enjoy boxing, including the participants who know all about the dangers but who love the sport.

I agree with you. I do not do promotions with "You're going to be rich", which is ridiculous, is to take players for idiots.
Even when I receive marketing, I remove the unnecessary surplus.

Try living in Australia. They don't let you into a venue after 1.30am now, no shots after midnight, and you can't even get a beer in a glass because people keep glassing each other in the face when they've had too much to drink. We can't have nice things because a very small number of people can't control themselves.

I read a report that said there were around 2.5 million people in the UK who were potential/problem gamblers. Judging by all the policies in place, I'd have thought that number was far higher. Limits on how many auto spins you can do, reminders about how long you've been playing etc. I see so many players complaining about not being able to turn those things off.

Another example of this - there was a girl, body builder (I'm talking natural bikini category, not figure/body builder category), a week or two ago in Oz who died. Every article I see online says she died from drinking protein shakes, and everyone going on and on saying they're bad and they should be banned. Although she died drinking protein shakes, they were not the actual cause of death. She died because she had a disease where her body had an issue breaking down protein. So even if she ate too much meat the same thing would have happened. It makes me angry because misinformed people will take what they want from a story and preach it as truth. I've been body building for a few years, and I know a few people with the same disease. When they have too much protein, even just a bit, they get really sick. She should have seen the signs. Then there were 2 body builders who were CLEARLY roided up who died last week, probably as a direct result of actually injecting steroids and noone bats an eyelid. Again, W T F.

That's it. it's a minority. Most people I speak to have a little bit of common sense. It's just a very loud, very vocal minority who have pursued positions of power and influence in the media and government so they can peddle their drivel and shout loudly at anyone who 'oppresses' them. World has officially gone mad.
