Russian telecom regulator cracks down on online gambling websites

According to a report on Yogonet.com, telecommunications regulator Roskomnadzor revealed that it identified 87,000 websites in 2016 that featured prohibited materials, including 15,900 that offered online gambling-related service.

Of the reported websites offering gambling-related services, Roskomnadzor said it permanently closed 12,561, while over 6,500 were said to be online casino domains, which along with poker sites are forbidden under Russian law.

Roskomnadzor explained that the number of prohibited websites it uncovered over the twelve-month period represented a 30% increase from 2015 while it successfully managed to warn off some 52,000 while having Internet service providers remove a further 34,500.The regulator detailed that it had received in excess of 127,000 reports of illicit websites from members of the public during 2016 although it later rejected some 40,000 of these tip-offs as unfounded. It stated that domains offering some form of gambling-related service received the second-highest number of complaints and were only surpassed in 22 categories of banned information by those featuring “extremist materials."

I still see lots of Russians on the offshore US-friendly sites. Well, they are labeled as Russians. I suppose that people can pick whatever country they want to display to the world on most of those sites, but I think it's pretty safe to say they are Russian accounts.

My entire point here being, I don't think this regulator is doing a great job of blocking sites... online poker sites at least.

At present day blocked:

-GPWA forum.
-Are lot of casinos, bookies and affiliate sites (include AskGamblers.com for example)
-Sites that contain information about corruption in Russian goverment.

-Last month - LinkedIN network. (In reality this is a warning for FB and Google. They must use servers that have physical location
in Russia. Under Russian law, if you have site with huge traffic or news-site targeting on Russia, you servers must have physical location
in Russia.

This is very hard to say, how many sites is blocked now, because goverment block new sites every day.

Now russian internet censorship system is still under construction. I think we get more censorship within several next years.

Since 01 July 2018 all ISP and mobile operators must recorded all phone calls and messages on social networks without any court order. "All" i mean 100%. I don't know how this is possible from technical point of view, but goverment ready to do this.

Since this date all messengers who would like to work in Russia (Skype, WhatsApp e.t.c.) must have servers in Russia, and must give all passwords and codes to Russian Federal Security Service.
