Default One strong affiliate site or several specialised sites?

I currently operate one main casino affiliate site and several smaller projects focused on narrower areas such as bonuses, fast-registration casinos and another geographic market.
The original logic was that a specialised domain could target one subject more clearly. In practice, every additional site creates another set of updates, technical issues, content gaps and commercial relationships to maintain.
Meanwhile, the main site has more authority and can often publish the same specialised content inside a dedicated section.
I still see value in smaller sites when they have a genuinely different audience or product focus. But I am becoming less convinced by creating separate sites simply to target another group of keywords.
For experienced affiliates, what has worked better over time: concentrating almost everything on a flagship domain, or maintaining several focused properties? At what point does diversification become unnecessary operational overhead?

It's been my experience that when I try to branch out to specialized sites that my main site suffers. I'm not saying it can't be done, just make sure you keep the main site updated.

get one producing then you can rethink this, but know a specialized domain name does not pull near the weight it used to.

It's a lot tougher maintaining rankings on smaller sites than it used to be. If you don't keep pumping the backlinks - and fresh content - sites decay quite quickly, within a few Google core updates.

When it comes to SEO traffic, the best approach is to create multiple highly targeted websites, each focused on a specific niche or topic.

Small microsites/EMDs are tough to rank nowadays as others have alluded to, so maximising one strong site seems to be the best option.

I agree ranking domain name terms, niche still is a major investment today with google.

Things are changing and the one stop shops are getting smaller, AI seems to focus more on niche.

Did you build all of those sites at the same time, or did you start with one and expand into the others? Do you have a team helping you manage them?

My experience has been quite similar to what others have shared here. Every time I’ve tried to manage multiple websites at the same time (or even multiple languages), my main site has ended up suffering, and it was not worth it. I would like it to be different, but in my case the numbers didn’t justify the additional workload, and I wasn’t seeing any signs that this was likely to change over time.

I've gone the "several sites" route: one main site focused on casino reviews and responsible gambling content, and a second more niche one for a different angle (poker/gaming press coverage). It works, but the overhead is real. You're duplicating SEO research, content briefs, and QA across sites instead of compounding authority on one domain. If I were starting over, I'd probably consolidate into fewer, deeper sites rather than spreading the same effort thinner.

If the audience, language, regulation or product is genuinely different, then a separate site can work. But if the same person could reasonably find that content on the main site, I’d usually build a strong section there instead.

It’s all about your conviction at this point. If you feel you can manage the big site plus small extra ones, then sure, go for it. I’d personally keep one site and publish specialised content in a section

I’m currently betting on one strong brand with clearly separated verticals
We covers sportsbooks, casinos and prediction markets, sweepstakes - but each area has its own comparison criteria and content structure. The shared brand helps with trust and authority; the risk is making the homepage feel unfocused.

Separate niche sites may make topical relevance easier, but they also multiply the editorial, technical and compliance workload. I’d rather make one property genuinely useful before spreading the same resources across several thinner sites.

I’m definitely in favor of a unified brand in any case. It might not be the busiest website. But even if there are several products, each with its own website, they should have a shared site. Its main advantage is that it showcases the system as a whole. Plus, it’s good for the brand’s HR efforts.
