Is mobile-first indexing enabled for your sites?

Google announced today (Wednesday, 19 December 2018) that more than half of the pages shown in search results globally are based on mobile-first indexing. You can see the announcement here:

It is easy to determine if Google is using mobile-first indexing for a site. Within Google Search Console, click on the "URL inspection" link in the left-side navigation with the site you want to check specified as the current site. Then, in the search box, specify the home page of the site (or any other page you want to check). If the page is indexed, you can then see the details for the most recent spidering by expanding the "Coverage" section.

For the GPWA website, in the crawl section of the coverage report, the following information is currently displayed:

Last crawl      Dec 19, 2018, 10:37:39 AM
Crawled as      Googlebot smartphone
Crawl allowed?  Yes
Page fetch      Successful

If the report indicates a page was last crawled using Googlebot smartphone, then you know that Google has enabled mobile-first indexing for the page.

So, for this week's poll I thought is was timely to ask if folks have had any of their sites converted to mobile-first indexing. If you have, please share whether all or some or none of your sites have and have not been converted, and whether or not you believe the change has made a difference - either positive or negative - for your sites.

I have enabled mobile-first indexing on all of my sites but I haven't really seen any changes from doing this.

I still kick myself when I think about mobile, I was sure it would be big but I let the friends around me convince me that it was a fad, now I'm totally unprepared and unsure how to migrate to mobile friendly websites. I know that I've needed a massive redesign for quite some time, but I had issues with life unexpectedly, then issues with affiliate programs which affected my ability to, well, let's just say that it's hard to pay for things when your money is tied up in affiliate programs who won't respond to emails, let alone release the funds you're owed.

I have been helping out a friend with their website recently and its not optimised for mobile at all. The google mobile test looked awful with it but it still ranks great and has done for the last 6 years. Im looking to update it but Im genuinely concerned that an update may impact the good rankings in a negative way... Im only doing it as a favour and it was me that advised him about the website not being mobile friendly.

Im not sure it makes a huge difference as of yet but to be honest this is the first website I have worked on that has not been optimised before the so called purge.
