Default Link Building - Summary of All Types of Links (Pros & Cons)

Here's a list of all types of links, their benefits and drawbacks.

    Testimonial Links

The most common backlinks seen when browsing profiles of casino affiliate sites, they seem to work wonders for a lot of casino affiliate sites, all you have to do in most cases is add the casino website on your comparison/review table and ask a backlink in return (if you're a new affiliate and not sending traffic to that casino, it might prove to be difficult in getting them to link to your site).

Pros: easy to obtain, works well - especially if you're getting the links from the homepage.
Cons: you're sharing links with other casino sites on the same page, usually high 2 figures or even hundreds, diluted link juice due to 50+ outbound links, even tho they're being used by many I view them as one of the most risky links because:

sponsored scholarship links got hammered by google in the past which used a similar linking structure (extremely high outbound link/text on the page ratio, plus the quality of other sites that you're sharing link with matters a lot)

All in all, if you're just starting out, or on a tight budget I would definitely use those type of links, everyone is using them, they still work great, but if you're investing 5-6figures in your project and using them extensively you're taking a huge risk (in my opinion).

    Guest Posts/Link Insertions

There are services out there that have lists of sites that accept paid posts/link insertions (with the site owners knowledge), there are tens of thousands of sites that you can get links from, the only questions is how deep your pockets are? Those types of links cost (on average) $150-$300 and $50-$100 less if you're doing the outreach yourself.

Pros & Cons: easy to obtain, they don't carry a lot of juice by themselves, works well when you start hammering them down by the hundreds or is a great addition to any other type of links that have high juice.

    Homepage Rental Links
Usually a sidebar or a contextual link on the homepage.

Pros & Cons: works very well, if it's shared by a ton of other sites that are renting links on that page, same cons as with testimonial links, on top of that you have to pay monthly/yearly link rental fee. If you have a big budget and find good sites with low OBL it's worth it.

    PBN Links

Links from websites that serves a sole purpose for linking to your money sites.

PBN links from sellers - I've been involved with PBNs for 7 years, and know how they word in and out, 99.5% (not overestimating) - of sellers will sell you junk/get your website in trouble, unless you are absolutely certain that the seller know what they're doing, better save your money on other type of links.

DIY PBN links - will cost more than guest posts, requires extensive know-how, but need a lot less links in comparison to guest posts.

Pros & Cons: works very well, if you're not well versed in how everything works they can do a big damage to your site.

    Diversity Links
    (forum links/directories/web2.0s/social profiles/QA links/blog comments)

All types of links that don't provide much juice

Pros & Cons: helps to dilute other type of links, makes your site appear more 'natural', gives bigger IP diversity and relevancy, if you don't know what you're doing it could impact your website negatively.

    Link Insertions (on hacked sites)

I do not condone such link building, but many indeed are using those type of services, so I thought I'll add them for informational purposes.

If you don't read between the lines you might confuse legit link insertions/guest post with hacked link insertions when browsing a sellers website, so be careful when getting legit ones not to end up with the above. All of the link insertion sellers on hacked sites are re-sellers, in a lot of cases half or more of your links will disappear after less than a year, they treat those hacked sites without mercy so you'll end seeing the website abused and stuffed with hundreds of links in a short amount of time - which is bad for your site. I recommend you staying away from hacked link insertions not only for moral reasons but also because they're super dangerous.

    Other types of links

Getting links naturally (good luck with casino aff), infographics (hit or miss, need know-how), auto generated links (crap), 2/3way link exchange (OBL problems, risky)

I think this is useful but it's unfortunate that there's not much space for organic links in the summary - yes it's hard in casino but not nearly as impossible as people make it out to be. Investment in time, creativity and outreach is key...and not having an awful site of course also.

I think a lot of the site experiencing big struggles with earning links organically through campaigns or PR is less about the casino niche and more that they have sites that just look terrible with onsite content that reads poorly.

I have found that it is easier and of more interest if you include something more popular with your casino site... I have an affiliate page on my casino site, all types of affiliate info and info on being an online casino affiliate. Its super easy to get other affiliate sites to link to you, fellow "affiliate marketers" across all niches love to share links and marketing tips.

Its also been easy to include crypto with online casinos... The crypto community is very open to sharing, and will even provide a ton of articles almost free of charge. Both topics for example are very easy to relate to online gambling.
Since 2009 we have been reviewing online casinos with a current focus on US Mobile Casinos. More recently we have launched and expanded into the world market with Online Casino Reviews - Along with our newest addition monlinecasinos.com.

Thanks for these useful information. Unfortunately it is really difficult to find sites that will accept your guest posts without paying for anything. Do you know any that you could recommend?

There is no way to get a guest post without paying unless you provide a very high quality article

Thanks, that is a decent resource to consider. I was thinking of trying PBN network, but probably just changed my mind

In additional to your post, profile links and web 2.0 links from high trusted domains will give your site:
    - Link diversity (as soon as you have diverse anchor text)
    - The mark of trusted (we all know that one is important now)
    - Natural links (if you use the long URL instead of keyword)
    - Cheaper than PBN
PBN website is a hard techincal skill and obviously costly. Moreover, finding a good PBN domain is not an easy thing....

Great insight and spot on with your PBN commentary. Nothing good can happen from buying links from PBNs or websites with high OBL. Might as well give your money to the Nigerian prince.

I've always been told the very best links are free because the content is that good they don't charge. This is hard to achieve in gambling industry but certainly rings true for other industries.

As a website owner myself why would I give FREE dofollow backlinks and dilute my own website's SEO "juice"? Free dofollow backlinks are nearly impossible to find across any industry and the truth is only newbie website owners who don't know what SEO is can be duped into giving away free backlinks.

The largest sites make enough money they do not care about this. They understand the value of high quality content. You're thinking too small, I am talking the biggest sites around. I don't think the statement applies quite as much to gambling though.

Don't take this personally but with all due respect that statement is simply not true. I've been creating and managing websites across multiple niches for over 15 years. Large websites do not offer free backlinks - they have their own in-house content teams - they do not accept free guest posts. The largest of websites may not even offer dofollow links for payment because as you mentioned they "make enough money".

Long story short, it is naive of one to think there is a plethora of "free links" available, especially of any quality.

PS: I just saw your "Selling Homepage Links/Sponsored Article Links (UR 23 DR 24)" thread.

I am a simple webmaster of gambling site, of course I sell links. I don't own BBC or Sky domains.

I agree with most of what you're saying, my statement wasn't meant to give hope to readers that there are lots of free links out there. Just stating if an article is exceptional, it's plausible you won't have to pay for it to be published, again, it's industry dependent.

Simple, if you link out to good content, you are showing Google and your visitors that the content you link to is trusted, at a trusted source and provide VALUE to the visitor.

Doing so in a responsible manner, not because its a link swap, or a paid link etc, is recognized as offering value to the visitor.

Right, my websites always linkout to authoritative content but not in the context of being asking to by a website owner contacting us asking for a free dofollow link to promote their specific website.

Guest Posts works for me.. Sometimes its hard to know if the site is PBN or not.. So I don't want to take the risk if I'M not 100% sure that its a normal site...

Hi, what’s the point of PBN nets, how do they affect search results?
