I'm not a good poker player by any means.
However back in the day, it was fun albeit not financially rewarding for me, but an enjoyable hobby, when I got bored with casinos.

forget what 'it says' .. and think about what you are saying. removing player IDs will not stop bots. All poker sites are ridden with bots. They don't care what you screenname is. Okay so they won't be able to bumhunt you based on your screenname or player tendencies, but they will still be able to play on the tables and play GTO poker vs you and the rest of the players.

they can also gang up on you with other bots, sharing info. they can tell what table each other are on via stack sizes + other factors - so you could unwittingly end up on a table with 3 bots all pushing you around and taking your $..

this is all just a meaningless marketing gimmick. Anonymous poker tables have been around for years... if anyone cared, they would use 'em.

I am not sure if other sites have good in depth articles of what Party Poker and other poker rooms will be attempting in the changes and BOT bans etc this year,but Calvin Ayre's article here went into a little more detail.

In line with this thinking, partypoker’s new fraud team successfully identified and closed down 277 bot-controlled accounts on the site, and returned more than $735,000 to affected players, recently.

This was an interesting move they made, but was it enough, or was it more to gain press for doing it?

Like others, I too never made a lot of $$ playing poker online, but I also very much enjoyed sitting down and playing once in a while, and miss the days where it was far easier for US residents to easily find open tables and low cost sit-and-go tournaments.

I don't need to read the article to tell you that nobody can stop bots from playing on online poker sites. There are bots on every site already. Player trackers + bots are separate issues.

They just adapt to their opponents... if you're too tight, they will 3bet your wider, double and triple barrel you and use your stats against you [eg your propensity to open light, then fold to 2 barrels or a triple barrel] bot programmers are smart

At a minimum - In SNGs the bots are ICM wizards... Playing GTO Poker. i.e perfect pushbot / call poker. When you consider that htey can also use player history tracking - they can take exploitation a little further because they know the players ranges and plays with specific stack sizes based on observed history over a large sample size. [this is the edge that anonymizing player screenname will negate, but not the 1st bit, nor the ability for bots to play on the site.. obviously]

Cashgames they will exploit your stats [eg playing too many hands OOP, defending button too light etc] and you might end up with a couple of bots on your table, cardsharing + squeezing you out of pots by reducing your equity [more players in hand see flop = less chance your AA wins for example].

This is why I stick to MTTs - the bots don't seem to play MTTs from what i have seen.

You vastly overstate how strong bots are programmed. Most of them are not on this level and use static, pre-programmed strategies.

yes i know, and yes i know - I was just answering about what is possible - and most likely in the 'state of the art' bots which use all available info about players from data-harvesting, hand databases, their own observation + possibly integrated tools like snowie, SNGWiz , piosolver, [insert tool name here]..

of course you are correct in your assertion that your average bot is basic, probably also runs solo and is operated by a dumbass script kiddie who just buys a bot and runs it with basic logic because they cannot program or do anything smart.... but the guys with the bot-farms, the proxies, and the money are leagues ahead, and do all the stuff I mentioned above fo' sho!
