Default Question about bounce Rate ?

    Hi

Right now I am getting around 60% bounces rate on targeted traffic. I have used very light Images on my site http://www.thebingoonline.com/ still the bounce rate I think is high if it was some thing which the visitor is looking for and not present on the page i have no problem with 100% bounce.

what All steps I can take to reduce it may make some changes the way deals are presented ?

or may be use codes to increase the loading speed of the website or some thing else can be done.

I would really appreciate your inputs.

My suggestion would be to read as much as you can on conversion improvements.

There was an article by John Wright on this in the December/January Igb Affiliate magazine, you can read it here, it's pretty insightful, and should help you reduce your bounce rate and convert your traffic better

A 60% bounce rate is not too bad for a gambling related site.

It is not the download speed of your site that is causing this bounce rate but untargeted traffic. You should try to focus more on a niche bingo market if wish to improve this figure. More importantly what is your conversion rate like?

If your conversion is good I wouldn't worry about a 60% bounce rate

The fact that they're only viewing one page on your site isn't necessarily a bad thing - if they hit it through the serps, find what they're looking for and then click through to a bingo site then you're doing your job well!

Try setting events in analytics for when a user clicks one of your aff links and see if that reduces your bounce rate, should give you a better impression of how much traffic really is 'bouncing'.

Yeah bounce rates are funny.. I have bounce rates of 80% where conversion rate is 50%
and other sites with bounce rates of 20% and not one conversion..

High bounce rate is good (even if google frowns). It means you are sending them on their way, ideally straight to the operator via your affiliate link.

Generally, affiliates will see higher bounce rates. The idea is to attract traffic, inform the visitor, then send them to a relevant site where they will hopefully convert. It's sort of a strange thing for the Google updates where bounce are used to determine rankings. Ironically, the more effective (helpful to the user) an affiliate site is, the higher the bounce rate will be.

I wouldn't worry about the bounce rate though. You really just care about conversions.

If your getting your bounce rate information from google... And your concerned about a high Bounce Rate... I would drop Google analytics like a bad habit...

There is a well founded rumor that google uses the GA Bounce Rate data to rank sites... So a high bounce rate in GA usually means a low ranking in the Google SERP.

Where is this rumor..? And how would removing GA help if you have it already. Removing it - they would still have historic data.
Do you actually think this is right?

    Yup I do.
As far back as 2007 google has been using a sites Bounce Rate(if google knows it) to help determine ranking.
    http://www.1stsearchenginerankings.c...ata-is-in.html

This bounce rate thing is a huge factor that is often overlooked by the wanna be SEO's.

If you know of any sites that use GA and have a high bounce rate and rank in the top 5 for any competitive keyword set... I would be interested to hear about it.

As far as google using the historic Bounce Rate data they collected for ranking... Why would they use old data when they are all about Freshness? Six month old Bounce data is not a good indicator of visitor experience like current Bounce Rates are.

Its kind of nuts though - high bounce rates can indicate wonderful target pages getting click outs = conversions.
So say you have a site in GA and want to remove it - can you reverse this effect? Or is it permanent once they have data on your site..

Lets say i remove a site now today - would that site with a high bounce rate improve?

Just wondering if sites that are effected are permanently dead and if its worth improving or just starting over.

It's not 'nuts' for google.. they hate affiliate sites.

If you read the study I posted you'll see that Ranking fluctuates with bounce rates... High Bounce Rates... Low SERP... and Low Bounce Rates equal higher ranking in the SERP.

888.com bounce rate 3 month 89% 1 month 87.6% 7 day 73% yesterday 93.4% that is one that sticks out.. I can look for dozens and dozens more.. I am sure they use GA. My bounce rate on a site i had used to be 70 plus - and i was ranked page 1 for several terms... My bounce rate is now less the 50% and its disappeared. I doubt it.

Cant they just use Alexa for bounce rates.

I guess Google could use Alexa bounce data... But why would they?
It would not be very accurate, to get any data at all the visitor would have to have Alexa browser addon installed and less than 5% of all browsers do.
Not to mention that Alexa and Google management are not friendly afaik.

Just ask your self why google would provide Analytics totally free of charge and pour millions of share holders dollars in GA expansion and improvement??
Google could charge a hefty fee for Analytics, but they don't... Why?
Because they Data Mine Analytics... Just read the GA T&C's.. they friggen out right tell you they are going to use the data they collect from your site. They just don't tell you HOW they are going to use the data they mine from your site.

If they charged for GA, then they wouldn't be able to Data Mine like they do...

GFPC, where did you get the bounce rates for 888 you posted?

If it came from Alexa it is NOT accurate in my opinion....since they get their data from toolbar users.

888 actually does use google analytics.

Look at bottom of source code. They indeed do..

I agree alexa is not totally accurate - but its close..

888 is a prime example of how this is totally wrong.

Since Alexa data only comes from users who have the toolbar installed, if any particular niche or site has a low PECENTAGE of users with the toolbar installed, the data is NOT accurate.

If 90% of your visitors to your site have the toolbar installed and they stick around a while, then your bounce rate will show lower at Alexa.

If only 10% of your visitors have the toolbar and they stick around a while, and 90% do not have the toolbar installed (but they have a high bounce rate) your bounce rate at Alexa will still show lower than what it truly is since Alexa is ONLY counting the bounce rate from toolbar users who visit your site.

The math is not incorrect....but diifficult to determine true stats since the only way to tell is to see what percentage of REAL VISITORS have the toolbar.
