One of the things that I am thinking after the both the Panda update and Penguin release is that Google is taking relevance into much more account when it comes to links and such.
My main site took a nose dive on April 24th. A new project of mine on a 1 year old domain started climbing in the rankings since the 24th. The difference is that the latter only has links from relevant sites - 9 Web 2.0 sites that I created myself (I did some social bookmarking and article directory linking to the Web 2.0 sites as well. Nothing crazy, just 60 or so pre-screened/indexed directories).
My question is if it would be possible to create a network of niche specific sites for people to post quality content. I would think these site on their own hosting would carry more weight in Google's eyes than Web 2.0 - especially since they know how many of us use them.
I am not exactly sure how it the quality of the content could be ensured. But that would be important as it seems blatantly spun content was also targeted by Google.
I am not saying spun content wouldn't be allowed. The posts on my Web 2.0 sites are variations are of a spun article. However, I spun it on a word/phrase, sentence and paragraph level. The article directory article was even spun on the article level (A completely re-written version also spun at the word/phrase, sentence and paragraph level).
To do it correctly there there would have to be a way to moderate the uniqueness of the spin so that it won't cause harm.
Thoughts? Could this be feasible. Is it even worth it in the Penguin era? Or has the Penguin gotten me so crazed that I am taking gibberish and need to be committed?
