Tons of single impressions various keywords GSC

My current websites are very old; dating back to 2002, and are established. I don't have any experience with newer websites.

With this new launch, I see tons of single (01) or sometimes 2 to 3 impressions for many new keywords, that keep coming and going out of the performance list inside the Google Search Console. Does it imply an algorithmic penalty?

Is this something new with Google algorithms for newer sites in the past few years?

Or am I seeing something that is completely normal.

For context, here is a sample screenshot of a few keywords from the GSC:

- These are highly competitive keywords, with the lowest having 10k and the highest having up to 1 million searches per month.
- As you can see the positions are good, but impression is just 1 or two.
- These keywords disappear for days and then come back with single impressions.

That's interesting, haven't seem this before. Do you also get click from those impressions? For example, the first on on your screenshot, where you're in 1st position? Also, have you checked whether there is anything special about those impressions country-wise?

Google may be testing it to see where you fit (or if you should fit anywhere). PM one of the pages and kw's if you like and I'll take a look and try to work it out, or at least build some theory.

It's not necessarily unusual but are you only seeing these single impression terms or are there others as well?

My understanding is that this is Google testing the waters a bit to see where you'll fit. I've gotten similar with non-gambling sites in the first 6-12 month range, particularly with higher competition keywords (though lower competition keywords seem to settle into position earlier for me).

Looks like a settlement issue to me, after I checked with a big financial news website. Evidently, it's quite common there, just that single impressions are into thousands and then poof, it's gone and different, story after story.

What I'm surprised at is not many people have observed this behavior, considering most posters here started their affiliate careers in the past few years.
