Have You Demoted Site Links

I have a site link that shows up for my website that is a review for a casino. I would much rather have a more general page be a site link and show up but I am curious if anyone has used the Google demote sitelinks feature and what it did.

If I demote the sitelink I dont want it to affect the search for the page I am demoting. Who has demoted a site link in the past and what were the results you saw? Did the page still get good search?

I demoted some sitelinks in the past. It worked well. They didn't show up as sitelinks anymore but I didn't notice any change in my search results.

I am not sure if it a coincidence or not, but I demoted a sitelink and all of the sudden the average position for that page in Google (per GWT) dropped 200 places. I had a sitelink appearing for the WinPalace Casino which I felt I didn't really need. When I looked today my WinPalace page was down 200 places.

Like I say could be a coincidence but I wont be demoting any more sitelinks - ha!
