Dreaming of Amsterdam and AAC....in June!!

Amsterdam is one of my favorite cities..After living in Curacao for a very very longtime, I didn't completely understand the Dutch until I visited Amsterdam for the first time in 2007.

Curacao is a little Dutch Caribbean island located off the coast of Venezuela..and I normally have a hard time explaining where we are actually located, and why Curacao is Dutch. But someone made a little video that explains EVERYTHING..Watch it you just might learn something. I know I did

Thanks for posting. The Netherlands/Holland misuse annoys the hell out of me, even though I've never been to the country THE NETHERLANDS. It's not helped in the UK by dumbed-down moronic news reports almost always referring to the country THE NETHERLANDS as Holland, which leads viewers to believe it's called Holland. It's not. Grrr. Same on UK TV football matches, often the TV score will refer to 'Holland'. Grrr.

Doesn't help then that the casino in Amsterdam is called Holland Casino

Well technically that is correct because Amsterdam is in north Holland, so it is, in fact, a Holland Casino. It's almost like you didn't watch the video Simmo...

Unfortunately Holland casino is actually is one of 14 Holland Casinos which are also outside "Holland" so Simmo is kinda right he just shouldn't have mentioned the Amsterdam bit - This is fun

Still conuses the hell out of me... I am sticking with 'The Netherlands'

I blame football (soccer) for all the confusion. If the scoreboard didn't keep referring to The Netherlands as Holland, there would be no confusion over the name. Now I'm wondering where the name hollandaise sauces comes from, and whether it's correctly named.

As early as the 17th century, there are written records of a sauce similar to hollandaise that is of Dutch origin.
Hollandaise sauce was originally called "Sauce Isigny" after a town in Normandy that was known for its butter.
