Using php within wordpress

Does anyone know of a decent/bulletproof plug in for wordpress that allows you to use php code within posts/pages etc.. I did a quick search and there seem to be quite a few options, but some haven't been updated for a while so looking for recommendations of stable options.

These plugins are so simple that they don't really need to be updated once they're created. They're just simple workarounds. Just use any. I kind of like this one:

If the methods others have recommended do not work, there is a way to use a text widget.

You have to add a few lines of code in the functions file, stop and start the site and from there on any php code you would normally put in a text widget will execute. I found it far easier than some of the php code widgets and plugins I tried.

Ok cool, cheers. Can you insert text widgets into posts though? I want to use it to make geo targetted tables that pull the info from a data file/database.

You may have already tried these, but there are a few plugins that will allow php to be used within posts and pages.

Some allow you to use the PHP within the visual editor as normal. Some make you use a BBcode type of syntax.

I've never used these myself, but either way hopefully they should help.

Cheers Renee, will try a few out and see which works best.

From the reading I've done so far there are issues with some of them parsing certain types of code correctly once the wordpress editor gets its mitts on it and mucks things up. Looks like trial and error of the suggested plugins may be the solution!

I think that you can in fact insert text widgets in posts, but would have to test that out to be sure.

I have found some of the php execute plugins to be buggy depending on the theme used and I am a firm believer in only using additional plugins when necessary and if a simply adding a few lines to the functions file allows wordpress to do what you want in native mode, that is less calls to the database.

Using this method, you may have to add the lines again after a wordpress update if it over-writes the functions file.

You just have to make sure you are in "text mode" or your lines of php disappear or you have to correct them.
